Biden Adm. Rebrands 'Scary Poppins' Disinformation Governance Board With New Free Speech 'Oversight' Agency

Whenever the subject of liberals and free speech comes up, I am always reminded of a quote by the great William F. Buckley. He said, “Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.”

In April of 2022, the Biden administration announced they were rolling out something called the “Disinformation Governance Board.” The official line for the creation of the board was to, “coordinate countering misinformation related to homeland security.” To head up this new entity, the administration tapped Nina Jankowicz, a smiling, Mary Poppins tunes-singing bureaucrat with kind of a creepy edge. She was described as, “a well-known figure in the field of fighting disinformation and extremism.” Translation, an expert in suppressing free speech.

When the Biden administration was called out for exactly what this was, an attempt at censoring free speech, or as it is otherwise known, speech the Biden administration doesn’t like, they canceled the Disinformation Governance Board and fired Jankowicz. But if you thought that was the end of the Biden administration trying to police Americans’ speech, you would be mistaken. Since the demise of the Disinformation Governance Board, something new has been put into place, under the radar of course. The latest incarnation of the Disinformation Governance Board is called the Foreign Malign Influence Center (FMIC), and it is under the direction of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI).

So what does the FMIC do? A quick perusal of its website looks fairly benign. It states that the agency is organized around three main focuses: analytic integration, mission management, and partner engagement. They work closely with other unheard-of, unelected government offices like The National Intelligence Council, The National Intelligence Management Council, and what they call, “our partners across the Intelligence Community.” There is a lot of mention of things like assessing global threats and U.S. response. They mention “partners” like the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, neither of which have a lot of credibility among average Americans currently. So one might assume this agency primarily deals with the threat of foreign intelligence until you get to the “history” section, and this sentence, “Election security remains a key mission of the FMIC, and the Director remains dual-hatted as the Election Threats Executive, serving as the coordinating authority for the IC on election security and reporting directly to the DNI.”

Election security, wait a minute. Wasn’t at least one of those FMIC “partners,” actively involved in what is more like election interference, in both 2016, with the information just revealed in the Durham Report, and in 2020 with the suppression of Hunter Biden’s laptop? And the job of this agency is “intelligence management?”

Let’s be clear: The job of this agency is to regulate (a.k.a., censor) the information to which Americans have access, and it should scare the pants off every American, no matter what your political persuasion. The House has answered the creation of this office — and others like it that have names that disguise what they really do — by introducing the Protecting Speech from Government Interference Act. It would make coercion of social media for political purposes illegal for any government employee.

Joe Biden and the Democrats are perfectly fine with suppressing the free speech of Americans, especially if they disagree with it. We know what they think of Trump supporters, just a bunch of MAGA hat-wearing bumpkins. When they were busted with the Disinformation Governance Board, they apparently came up with a similar operation and made sure to keep it underground, buried within a pile of bureaucracy like the DNI. If I didn’t know better, I would say the stated agenda for the 2024 presidential election is hiding on the FMIC website, in plain sight.
