Arizona is one of the few remaining U.S. states without a lieutenant governor - that's about to change in the 2026 midterms, thanks to a voter-passed proposition in 2022. As the state's Clean Elections Commission website states:
The Lieutenant Governor, a newly created office in Arizona, will replace the Secretary of State as the successor to the Governor in the case the Governor dies, resigns, is removed from office or is permanently unable to carry out the duties of the Governor and serves until a successor is elected. Historically the Secretary of State has been the second in the chain of command since Arizona statehood in 1912.
And the deadline is fast approaching for each party to make their historic running mate nomination official:
Candidates running for Governor must have their second-in-command at least 60 days preceding the November election. This means shortly after the 2026 Primary Election final nominees must name their running mates, if they have not done so already. Arizona voters will be electing the Governor and Lieutenant Governor on a joint ticket in the November 2026 General Election.
Republican gubernatorial nominee Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ-05) didn't waste any time, announcing his pick on Friday of a former state senator. And the video seems to show they're appealing to the state's many rural - and conservative - voters.
Meet Sine Kerr.

The daughter of an Army combat veteran and a naturalized U.S. citizen from Mexico, Sine Kerr has lived the American Dream.
She’s worked as a dairy farmer in Buckeye for over 40 years and represented Maricopa and Yuma counties in the State Senate.
She and her wonderful husband Bill of 46 years have raised their family of four children and twelve grandchildren in the West Valley and have embodied our Arizona values.
Sine is strong, steady, and a fighter for Arizona. I couldn’t be more thrilled to name her as Arizona’s first nominee for Lieutenant Governor!

Kerr thanked Biggs in a post on her X account, as my colleague at sister site Townhall, Cameron Arcand, shared:

The nomination is getting rave reviews, including from Arizona Freedom Caucus member and state Sen. Wendy Rogers:
@SineKerr will be a FANTASTIC LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR!

(Pronounced “SEE-nah”)
She is wise, thoughtful, intelligent, and doggedly gets to the bottom of every issue; my longtime valued ally in the Arizona Senate. I am thrilled at this choice! https://t.co/kKauhUazVr
Chief operating officer of TPUSA, Tyler Bowyer echoed Kerr's strong experience with the state's water resources:
Today the headlines should be about how Katie Hobbs lost Arizona’s most valuable resource— over the next number of years we will lose millions of acre feet thanks to Katie Hobbs which means our economy will suffer.

Today the headlines should be about how Katie Hobbs lost Arizona’s most valuable resource— over the next number of years we will lose millions of acre feet thanks to Katie Hobbs which means our economy will suffer.
These effects won’t be totally felt right away but will drive costs exponentially over the oncoming years.
That’s why Andy Biggs chose @SineKerr, an expert in this field to fix it.
Arizona won’t survive electing Katie Hobbs
Now, that brings up a burning question: what's the hold up on Gov. Katie Hobbs' (D) nominee, which she needs to get in by Sept. 3?
She's too busy ducking a debate with Biggs. She has refused to debate any opponent for eight years, a fact for which Hobbs was just blasted by a member of the local Phoenix media.

Brutal #AZGov segment

Reporter @Dennis_Welch: "Hobbs does not have a reputation of being a good debater. In fact, it's been 8 years"
Biggs adviser @DrewSexton23: "Hobbs thinks the rules don't apply to her. That may be why she's also under criminal investigation for corruption" pic.twitter.com/9hBErno9KD
And oh yeah, she probably doesn't want to talk about being under criminal investigation by state AG Kris Mayes. Stay tuned, readers!
Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
