Lefty Arizona AG Kris Mayes Dismisses 2020 Fake Elector Criminal Case Against Trump Allies - for Now

Some news just broke about the fake elector case in my state of Arizona and on first glance, it could be good news for longtime allies of President Trump, including former WH chief of staff, Mark Meadows and Rudy Giuliani, as radical lefty AG Kris Mayes (D) scrapped the "fake elector" criminal charges against them on Thursday.

The prosecutor in Arizona has finally dropped the unjustified and unconstitutional charges against me and all my innocent co-defendants.

All the claims about falsifying data, electors et al was a part of the Democrat  massive corruption of our previously world renowned justice system

Mayes was not dropping it as a sign of defeat, though; it was ahead of a Friday deadline - and she has said her office will start another grand jury proceedings later, according to the AP:

PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is dismissing a sprawling criminal case that alleged President Donald Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and others tried to overturn Trump’s 2020 loss in the state.

The decision announced Thursday marks the third such fake elector case filed by states to be dismissed, though the Democratic attorney general is vowing to bring it back to a grand jury in hopes of securing another indictment.

The legal maneuver is aimed at getting around a Friday deadline for starting new grand jury proceedings after Mayes lost an appeal earlier this month. The appeal was filed after defense attorneys argued successfully that the original grand jury hadn’t been shown the relevant parts of a law that governs how presidential contests are certified.

Indeed, she lost an appeal by hiding crucial information on the law - just the latest setback for the case that has dragged on for years. The charges were filed in April 2024. Something else RedState has previously reported on: the case's origins reportedly are steeped in lawfare:

The attorney general's team of prosecutors wrote, when explaining why the current case won't go before a grand jury:

“This case is complex and will require substantial presentation of evidence and time to accommodate defendants’ request to testify and present evidence."

Meanwhile, Giuliani's attorney, Mark L. Williams, called the dismissal "appropriate," saying in a statement that "his client and the others charged in the case did nothing wrong and were only exercising their rights to free speech and to petition the government," per the AP.

“This action was brought to punish Mr. Giuliani and the other Republican defendants for exercising their constitutional rights,” Williams said. “It’s appropriate that it’s being dismissed.”

Keep in mind that there's hint of hope here. Other states have dismissed similar cases:

While it has not become a national race so far, Kris Mayes is running for reelection as AG right now. And Republican state Senate Pres. Warren Petersen is running to replace her; the GOP primary happens in July. Check out this recent jab, when he says she got her facts wrong, that this is "why she loses in court":

Mayes said I went to the UFC fight in DC. She was wrong. I went to advocate on behalf of my constituents.  I was working, not playing.  As usual she is wrong on the facts.  That's why she loses in court.

Her and my primary opponent have a lot in common. Both are liberal, both are party switchers and both are reckless with the facts.

He also points out her lapse in knowledge about the Constitution, too, when it comes to DACA, and that Mayes isn't even hiding her hostility towards law enforcement:

Here is some free legal advice to our sitting AG. DACA is found nowhere in the Constitution.

Just another reason why every major law enforcement organization has endorsed me and not Mayes. She isn't even hiding it.  She is not for law enforcement or the law.

She is fighting to protect illegals.  I will keep our border secure and will work with the federal government to deport everyone who enters this country illegally.

We welcome everyone who comes here legally and abides by the law. But be ready to be deported or prosecuted if you don't.

This is a breaking story, and we'll bring you more updates as warranted. Stay tuned.
