RedState readers may be familar with the controversies that have long plagued the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Academy Awards when it comes to diversity. It also doesn’t help that, year after year, the evening meant to celebrate the film industry’s most coveted award continues to reap low ratings.
The Oscars’ attempts to cater to the woke class led them to go hostless for the past two years, after ditching their announced host Kevin Hart, because some people didn’t like some of his old tweets. Of course, the most recent entry in the saga was HBO Max’s decision last week to pull from – then grudgingly promise to return to – its line-up the Oscar award-winning “Gone With The Wind.” And as you may know, the film holds a special place in Oscars history: the first black actor or actress to ever win an Academy Award.
It seems they can never do enough. But Hollywood thinks they’ve nailed it this year.
“Moving forward, unconscious bias training will be MANDATORY for all Academy governors, branch executive committee members and Academy staff on an annual basis.” // This is not parody. Thought Police initiatives are now required of Academy leaders. #Orwell https://t.co/XL594O4iUs

In an effort to go from #OscarsSoWhite to #OscarsSoWoke, this year the Academy has announced a slew of new eligibility rules. And the changes seem custom-made to ravage the elite (and special) quality of an Oscar nomination — all to accomodate the dictates of militant leftist group, Black Lives Matter, and its allies on the Left.
According to the Hollywood Reporter,
The Academy is setting up a task force”to develop and implement new representation and inclusion standards for Oscars eligibility by July 31, 2020.”
The measure was approved on Thursday via a Zoom meeting of the board of governors that had originally been scheduled for Tuesday, but was delayed two days to avoid a conflict with the funeral of George Floyd….”
You read that right. To show how very woke they are, the Academy pushed back their meeting to “avoid a conflict with the funeral of George Floyd.” Let’s continue.
Starting with the 94th Oscars ceremony [in 2021], the Academy will return to a guaranteed 10 best picture nominees, as was the case for the 82nd and 83rd ceremonies, before it shifted to a system that could yield anywhere from five to 10 nominees. This aims to maximize the diversity of the films that are nominated for the Academy’s highest honor.
Another, major change:
Also starting with the 94th Oscars season, the Academy will implement a “quarterly viewing process” through the Academy Screening Room, the streaming site through which Academy members are able to watch Oscar hopefuls at home. By making it possible for members to view films released year-round, the Academy aims to broaden each film’s exposure, level the playing field and ensure all eligible films can be seen by voting members.
The Academy has also changed how long the organization’s Governors can hold office, the minutiae which I doubt you’re interested in. But, as James Woods shared in his tweet, there’s this [emphasis original]:
Moving forward, unconscious bias training will be mandatory for all Academy governors, branch executive committee members and Academy staff on an annual basis, and will also be offered to the organization’s roughly 9,000 members.
As the title of a book on a different topic went, “you will be made to care.”
Meanwhile, in related, Hollywood pandering news, “Orange Is The New Black” and “Billions” star Asia Kate Dillon wants the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards to stop gendering its award categories.

Hey, SAG and Oscars… Here’s some unsolicited advice for your wokeness strategy, going forward: no matter what changes you make to your rules, it will never, ever be enough for your friends on the progressive left. Best of luck!
