Hockey Sticks, Broken Feminism, and a Happy Reunion: Are We Doomed?

Welcome to Are We Doomed? the weekly column in which I will take the latest news and try to determine if it’s all downhill from here.

Not hockey!

Coronavirus has gone too far. Right now, the NHL is facing a hockey stick shortage, because factories for the two companies (Bauer and CCM) which make 75 percent of the custom sticks for the league are located in China. With China pretty much shut down due to Coronavirus, those sticks aren’t being made. For those of you who aren’t hockey fans (first of all, what’s wrong with you?), it’s not unusual for a stick to break during a game or otherwise need to be replaced. This could really be a problem.

Verdict: Coronavirus really does freak me out a little. Messing with hockey freaks me out a lot. We might be doomed; the jury is still out.

Somebody broke feminism

I’m pretty sure somebody broke feminism. Designer Namila hired adult film stars to serve as models in her recent fashion show at the illustrious New York Fashion Week. She says it was a “feminist statement.” If porn is feminist, somebody needs to check on feminism.

Verdict: Anyone who thinks this is feminism is doomed and is dooming the rest of us.

Happy birthday, Pierce!

Verdict:  Dogs exist, as do people who want to make dogs happy. This world isn’t done yet.

Three’s a crowd

HGTV’s House Hunters had a pretty interesting episode this week. A man and his husband and their kids and their girlfriend needed a new house. Yes, you read that correctly. A house for a “throuple” (three-person couple). Interesting that this happened the same week that Utah’s Senate unanimously voted to decriminalize polygamy.

Verdict:  People should be able to do whatever they want with their own lives and, also, the breakdown of the family is a real problem. If we keep pushing the boundaries towards the weird and culture keeps working towards normalizing it, we are doomed.

Let’s dance

Every year, the Tim Tebow Foundation holds the Night to Shine event for kids with special needs.

This year was huge. According to the foundation, “Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs ages 14 and older. This February 7, 2020, Night to Shine celebrates its sixth anniversary! On one night, 721 churches from around the world will come together to host Night to Shine for approximately 115,000 honored guests through the support of 215,000 volunteers!”

Check out the highlights, including Tebow’s remarks from the Tallahassee event.

Verdict: There are people doing real good in the world, just to make people happy. We aren’t doomed at all.

The best welcome

Astronaut Christina Koch recently returned to Earth after 328 days in space. She got the best welcome home.

Verdict: I think you know how I feel about dogs, so that part is clear. But I also love that this is a lady astronaut which, I was led to believe by certain Super Bowl ads, don’t exist. I’m into celebrating her and her wonderful dog and not pretending that women are super oppressed. We are the freest we’ve ever been and that is a real lack of doom.

Final Analysis.

It was a weird week, but the dogs saved us. Again.
