Two plus two is four, but what does it say about white supremacy? Maybe a lot. That's the apparent implication of a scheduled educational overhaul.
On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Public Schools Board of Education approved a cleansing of its math curricula. Soon, systemic racism will be uprooted -- courtesy of firm Quetzal Education Consulting. Its website hails three dutiful dictates:
Decolonize. Reclaim. Reimagine.
"We help schools...transform their culture and praxis to foster anti-oppressive spaces," it says.
They're dedicated, dxsrxpting dx-gxxders:
We work to strategically and impactfully disrupt oppression.
We are a Black and Brown womxn-led educational consulting firm with a national network of teachers, administrators, and community organizers. Through innovative content and approaches, Quetzal supports your antiracist goals to tangibly and impactfully disrupt oppression.
Via vision, the womxn are whisking up justice for genius:
We ally with Black and Brown communities to decolonize education, reclaim our ancestral genius, and reimagine post-abolitionist spaces for families, students, and educators of Color.
How'd Quetzal get its name? It decided wokeness was for the birds. From an introductory video:
Freedom is so essential to the (bird) quetzal that if anyone cages it, it goes on a hunger strike until it's set free.
We see our black and brown students and educators as [quetzals]. We see their refusal, resilience, and their resistance. We see how they protest oppression, and the ways in which they carve spaces of freedom for themselves and others.
At Quetzal, we want to nurture and nourish that resistance. And we also want to ease them of their burden to resist oppression by doing our part to foster liberatory practices and spaces that effectively touch our students and their families' lives.
To do that, we rely on a nationwide network of BIPOC teachers, community organizers, administrators, educational experts and organizations to center and support the voices, needs, and leadership of communities of color.
In order to disrupt any -ism -- particularly racism -- an effective consultant must know how to identify the power dynamics of a space, and then redistribute power to the folx who have been most deprived of it.
We remain committed in our stance for freedom against colonization by the liberation of black and Indigenous peoples, and as a celebration of our people's resilience and resistance.
White supremacy, be gone:
We are one of the leading innovators around the country when it comes to Antiracist Math Instruction. We have impacted hundreds of teachers and educators around the country through our workshops, services and publications.
High-dollar disruption is poised in Pittsburgh. The Quetzal contract takes taxpayers for $50,000.
But maybe that's a basement-level bargain; judging from a host of headlines, all realms are riddled with wicked whiteness:

Pittsburgh Public Schools is doing its part. So goes modern education's main mission; social ideology trumps old-school...school.
October 25th's Legislative Session agenda described Item 6.10 accordingly:
The purpose of [Quetzal's] introductory workshop series is to identify, disrupt, and replace ineffective and oppressive practices in math instruction with practices that center the wellness of students of Color and to provide opportunities for math departments and math teachers to grow their anti-racist math praxis collaboratively in pedagogy and instruction. Participants in the leadership workshop series will engage in an ongoing workshop series of six sessions in the topic of antiracist math leadership. ... Participants will learn how to train others in the topic of antiracist math, as well as how to identify issues of equity in math spaces.
Only one person voted "no."
Mathematical racism in Western Pennsylvania, your days are numbered. The Woke Ghostbusters are on their way. The original aim of education is dead, and they ain't afraid of no ghost.
