Don't Pull the Plug: Trans Activists March, Demand Tampons Be Reinstalled in University Men's Restrooms

Sometimes, righteous anger arises. Such a thing has occurred at an 1889-founded school, where they're putting the "men" in "menstruation." Or, at least, they're attempting to reinsert it.

Famed South Carolina public research institution Clemson University recently pulled the plug on a program. The plan pertained to plugs you pelvically pull -- Cooper Library had stocked its restrooms with tampons. But due to reconsideration, the facility yanked cotton from some water closets.

According to Inside Higher Ed, after less than a year of the stocked stuffers' installment, state lawmaker April Cromer eyed a Clemson College Republicans social media post. The entry pointed to the period packers' presence in on-campus powder rooms -- ones with "Men" on the door. Subsequently, Republican April "met with the university’s president to demand they be removed."

Resultantly, holes were left hollow:

[College Republican President Trevor Tiedeman] said the holes left by the removal have since been refilled and painted over.

On September 17th, the Clemson College Republicans took a victory lap on X (formerly Twitter):

"A few days ago, our club made it known that tampon and pad dispensers were in several of the MEN'S restrooms in Cooper Library... However, with the help of Rep. @CromerForHouse, these dispensers were removed from the walls of the bathrooms. It is a total embarrassment that these were there in the first place."

The club took advantage of Elon Musk's free-speech embrace. Trigger Warning:

"Men cannot be women. Women cannot be men. Period."

Moreover:

"Reject delusion. Embrace sanity."

Clemson trans activists rejected that rejection, which they indicated via an October 11th march. Ahead of time, organization Take Back Pride told Instagram users to "follow the rainbow road" -- a mapped path for the protest. The National Coming Out Day event would emphasize male students' need to keep something from coming out.

At a rally in front of Sikes Hall, main student organizer Pan Tankersley panned the plan that tanked tampons. Quotes courtesy of The College Fix...

"Today, we are marching for the reinstatement of the menstrual products in the men’s restrooms in Cooper Library and throughout campus."

Another speaker seconded that motion:

“We demand the reinstatement of the menstrual dispensers that were unjustly removed from the men’s bathrooms at Cooper Library."

Magic isn't on the menu:

"Queer people on this campus are not just going to magically disappear. So instead of working against us -- like taking away menstrual products from the men’s bathrooms, making people feel unwelcomed -- there should be support for the community that is already fighting to feel safe here.”

Back to Clemson's periodic problem, Take Back Pride has issued official mandates -- with attention to its ideological enemies:

  • We demand revisions to the student code of conduct that applies the Non-Discrimination & Anti-Harassment Policy (on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, pregnancy, national origin, age, disability, veteran's status, etc.) to student organizations.
  • We demand the return of the menstrual dispensaries within the mens' restrooms at Cooper Library, and for Clemson University to release a formal statement condemning their vandalization with hateful, transphobic language.
  • We demand formal repercussions towards the Clemson College Republicans for contributing to a campus climate that encourages transphobic rhetoric and jeopardizes the safety of LGBTQIA+ students.

As for "transphobic rhetoric," here's how the College Republicans initially characterized tampons for Tom, Harry and Dick:

Will Clemson reverse course? Either way, Take Back Pride aims toward a new normal. Spotted at the march: an Anarchy symbol, a Communist Hammer and Sickle, and an image depicting three sexes.

All around America, revolution is in the air. And in men's vaginas.
