If you want to understand how the ideology of progressive prosecutors is critically endangering the lives of ordinary people every single day, you don't need to start with an academic study, a media roundtable, or an expert criminal justice panel. You can start, instead, at a bus shelter in Fairfax County, Virginia.
This is where a 41-year-old mother, Stephanie Minter, was allegedly stabbed to death last week. The man who has been charged with her murder is an illegal alien from Sierra Leone named Abdul Jalloh. Jalloh had previously been arrested more than 40 times for a range of violent offenses, including multiple cases of malicious wounding and sexual assault, and was released every time by uber-lefty Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano after serving little or no time.
Local ABC affiliate reports that an illegal immigrant from Sierra Leone who murdered a woman at a bus stop had over 40 previous charges (including rape), but Fairfax County prosecutor Steve Descano dropped the charges in almost all of those cases.

It's all part of Descano's "reform" agenda that, as was described on a now-deleted page on his official website, "has implemented policies that make our community safer while addressing racial and socioeconomic inequities in our criminal justice system, stemming the tide of mass incarceration, and elevating a holistic, values-based approach to prosecution over a reflexively punitive one."
In other words, an agenda that repeatedly forgives illegals and other criminals and endangers Virginians.
Lefty prosecutors like Steve Descano – and there are gobs just like him across the country who take money from George Soros with one hand and sign release orders for hardened criminals with the other – are increasingly behaving less like guardians of public safety and more like college kids who've succumbed to the leftist mind virus that sees incarceration as inhumane, law enforcement as detestable, and the justice system itself as something to be derided.

Meet Steve Descano — Democrat, Best Friend to Violent Illegals, and the Reason ICE Is So Busy
Of course, the victims of this leftist experiment aren't the people who designed it, it's the mothers like Stephanie who are brutally snuffed out at bus stops. The elites among us who champion these policies, also known as Democrats, almost never pay the price for their own policies – that's for the rest of us to deal with.
This is the dirty secret of progressive prosecution: it's sold as compassion, and is anything but that. It certainly wasn't compassionate toward Stephanie Minter, nor is it compassionate toward law-abiding citizens who just want to live in peace but have to deal with violent offenders being released into their communities.
And it won't be compassionate toward the next victim, whose life may in danger at this very moment because of the lax and/or non-existent prosecutorial standards of the Steve Descanos of this country.
In Abdul Jalloh’s case, officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have confirmed he was in the country illegally and had a final removal order dating back to 2020, which raises even more questions about how many systems meant to protect Virginians had to fail before Stephanie Minter’s life was taken.
One of the first things Democrat Governor Abigail Spanberger did when taking office in January was to axe cooperation between state law enforcement and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). When asked what DHS and ICE have to do to make sure Abdul Jalloh isn't returned to the streets of Fairfax County, Spanberger's office said they'd have to get a signed judicial warrant – adding yet another obstacle to keep violent illegals behind bars.

The horrifying death of Stephanie Minter is an indictment of the entire progressive prosecutor ideology pushed by Democrats that keeps violent offenders on the streets. A mother is now dead because too many state and local officials chose ideology over law and order, and that's the real legacy of Virginia’s left-wing "justice" agenda.
Virginia is no longer for lovers, it's apparently now for murderers.
