If you're male or female on the outside, such is irrelevant to your sexual identity. That's what nurses may soon tell toddlers.
Training slides from the University of Arizona (UA) were recently posted online by X account Libs of TikTok. The guidance on dealing with small children was purportedly presented to enrollees of the school's College of Nursing. At issue: one's true self, and how that relates to wellness.
Self-definition is all the rage; yet regarding the relatively brand-new idea of "gender," conflicted messaging abounds. On one hand, Powers That Be appeal to us about the paralyzing problem of gender dysphoria -- a merciless malady in which sex and sensibilities don't match. That blight begets "gender identity." Simultaneously, we're sold a substantially different idea: Gender is a joyous and necessary identity layer we should artistically embrace.
The latter seems increasingly at home in public education, starting as early as preschool. Picking one's gender is akin to choosing a favorite color. Gender is a palette, and all are prodded to paint.
Onto UA, where tomorrow's nurses are being taught how to talk to tiny tots. From a slide titled "Asking Pediatric Patients About Gender Identity":
Some kids feel like a girl on the inside, some kids feel like a boy on the inside, and some kids feel like neither, both, or someone else. What about you? How do you feel on the inside?
Make no mistake:
There's no right or wrong answer.

As reported by AZ Central, the University of Arizona responded to Libs of TikTok's tweet:
UA officials...said they were investigating the post and...said [the] College of Nursing was focused on preparing future healthcare providers for effective careers, "including educating them on how to address sensitive topics with children and their parents."
The school's statement also hailed "balanced perspectives on complex healthcare concepts as we teach critical thinking to this next generation of students."
Additionally offered: a denial. From AU Vice President of External Communications Pam Scott, per Tuscon.com:
“The College of Nursing does not recommend or advocate for young children to be asked gender-related questions in wellness checks."
Even so, last week, Arizona Republicans crafted a press release of their own:
Senate Republicans Condemn University of Arizona Nursing School Curriculum Aimed at Stealing the Innocence of Young Children
Senate Republicans are outraged over troubling curriculum being taught at the University of Arizona Nursing School, aiming to cater to the radical left agenda, and to steal the innocence of our young children through the next generation of medical professionals.
Sen. Justine Wadsack commented, "This is a disgusting use of your taxpayer dollars." Sen. Janae Shamp remarked she was "absolutely sickened."
A threat was made by Sen. T.J. Shope, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services:
"If this issue is not immediately resolved by the university, Senate Republicans will weigh all options to make certain tax dollars are no longer used in such an egregious fashion. The mental health of our children and the state of our healthcare industry [are] being threatened by this radical ideology."
Hopefully, they'll get it all figured out. Meanwhile, UA's training slide makes clear when nurses should start teaching other people's children about their developing selves:
Start around age three, during the well visit.
SCOOP: University of Arizona nursing school is teaching future nurses that 3-year-olds can know they are transgender. They’re also being taught to start questioning patients as young as 3 about their gender.

So goes gender identity, and so goes contemporary American "wellness."
