The world keeps on spinning as we move past the egregious events of last Wednesday.
Part of that forward motion — and, obviously, a result of said events — comes in the form of Vice President Mike Pence visiting the National Guard.
As you may know, the Guard has stationed troops outside the Capitol.
On Thursday, the VP headed over to thank the brave men and women of the United States Military for doing their duty.
As reported by The Daily Wire, Mike told the group — assembled and at attention on the Capitol’s east side — they’re particularly special:
“I’m your vice president, but I used to be a governor, so I’ve got a special place in my heart for our National Guard. Thank you all for stepping forward to serve your country, thank you for stepping forward to provide security here in our nation’s capital at such an important time in the life of our nation.”
During an unscheduled stop on Capitol Hill, VP Mike Pence greeted National Guard personnel, thanking them for "stepping forward for your country."

He also gave a shout-out to their loved ones:
“I want you to thank your families, as well. I know you all had to move out to get here…at the Capitol providing the level of security that’s going to make it possible for us to have a historic transfer of power, the inauguration of a new President of the United States. You all are going to make that possible.”
Pence said he’d just come from a Homeland Security briefing and heard of their terrific work.
They’re making way for a safe upcoming week:
“[L]iterally thousands and thousands of men and women in uniform are going to make it possible to have a safe inauguration.”
People have often called Mike Pence one of the nicest guys in politics.
He bolstered that reputation:
“And I just wanted to stop [by] today to say thank you. Thank you for your service, thank you for stepping forward. God bless you in the days ahead. It’s been my great honor to serve as your vice president, and I want to thank you for your service.”

We’re living in a very turbulent time.
Whatever one’s opinions about so many things that have occurred over these last few months, in my opinion, it’s good for us to see something as simple and kind — and American — as an elected leader at the top thanking the country’s servicepeople for what they do.
They have a tough job, and I have to believe there are times it feels quite thankless.
Thursday wasn’t one of those times.
Mike Pence wanted them to know he’s grateful.
Hopefully, they were grateful as well.
And regardless of the ebb and flow of the U.S.A., as we struggle to find clarity amid troublesome times, I hope we can all be grateful — to live in (yes, it remains true) the greatest nation in the world.
