Call it an unintended consequence — ironically, perhaps the biggest boost to the 2nd Amendment at any time over the last 50 years has come courtesy of the Left.

Democratic politicians allowing rioters — who appear, at this point, to be revolting at the notion of not revolting — to engage in theft, destruction, and violence has sent people to gun shops in droves.

It seems perhaps even those who were explosively opposed to firearms are suddenly triggered enough to hanker for a handy hunk of controlled demolition.

For some, maybe “no guns” sounds great ’til they realize people who might break into their house — or block them at an intersection — are carrying ’em.

Given our current chaos, here’s no surprise to anyone — except maybe Beto O’Rourke: As reported by The Associated Press, airport security is seeing an incredible surge in firearms detected within flyers’ carry-on bags.

Per every million passengers screened in July, Transportation Security Administration workers discovered 15.3 guns.

The number last July: 5.1.

And flying hasn’t much taken off since the virus hit: On Sunday, TSA screened more than 830,000 people — the first time to cross the 800,000 mark post-March 17th.

And here’s a real doozy:

TSA administrator David Pekoske marveled over the number of, not just guns, but loaded guns found at checkpoints:

“Even more concerning is that 80% of the firearms coming into the checkpoint are loaded, and it’s just an accident waiting to happen.”

So what happens when the airport police find a bullet-boasting bang broker — that’d be, a gun — next to your toothbrush and wireless headphones? A smidge of citation, a cup of confiscation, and a dash of detainment.

Alternatively, The Daily Caller outlines proper procedure:

Travelers must make sure the firearm is unloaded and packed inside a hard sided firearm case. The traveler should also take the firearm to the airline check-in counter and declare that they are traveling with the gun, in addition to filling out a form.

The weapon’s then stored in an inaccessible part of the plane.

The loaded problem is nothing new: In 2019, of 4,432 guns found in carry-on luggage, 87% were loaded.

Bold move, America.

But the tripling of the percentage of guns in July is worth noting.

So in these uncertain times, there aren’t many people with hot travel plans, but among those who have them, a lot are packing heat.

If Democrats win big in November, where does that leave the right to bear arms? Only time will tell, but I’ll leave you with some rip-roarin’ retrospect.
