On Wednesday, Democrats announced they’ll hold a largely virtual convention August 17th-20th.
As per Reuters, the decision follows a coronavirus spike in several states — among them California, Texas, and Florida.
Winner-in-the-wings Joe Biden will accept the nomination, the story goes, in person in Milwaukee.
Republicans will take a more personal approach, courtesy of a mostly in-person event in Charlotte and, to a greater extent, Jacksonville. Trump will accept his nomination in front of thousands on August 27th.
That speech was originally planned for North Carolina’s most populous city, but due to social distancing rules, it leapt to an indoor arena in Florida.
Had long planned to have the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, a place I love. Now, @NC_Governor Roy Cooper and his representatives refuse to guarantee that we can have use of the Spectrum Arena – Spend millions of dollars, have everybody arrive, and…

…then tell them they will not be able to gain entry. Governor Cooper is still in Shelter-In-Place Mode, and not allowing us to occupy the arena as originally anticipated and promised. Would have showcased beautiful North Carolina to the World, and brought in hundreds of…

…millions of dollars, and jobs, for the State. Because of @NC_Governor, we are now forced to seek another State to host the 2020 Republican National Convention.

As for the Dems’ choice of Lavergne and Shirley’s city of residence, here’s Reuters:
Milwaukee was originally chosen as the site of the convention because Wisconsin is a battleground state in the Nov. 3 general election. Opinion polls show Biden with a lead over Trump there. Trump’s victory in Wisconsin in 2016 helped propel him to the presidency.
All convention business will be conducted by delegates remotely. That includes voting for Joe.
But I ask again: Will they actually go through with it? When it all comes down, it’s hard for me to imagine the Democrat Party putting a man in the drivers seat who — respectfully — is clearly suffering from a significant medical issue.
As covered by RedState’s Elizabeth Vaughn Thursday, Biden’s performance during an online Tuesday fundraiser left us with another whopper of word wizardry:

Does that sound like a guy on the cutting edge, ready to play debate-style mental chess with Donald “The Animal” Trump?
At present moment, I wouldn’t be surprised if, at any in-person event, the President’s head opened with a flip-top and swallowed Biden whole.
Of course, the DNC’s plan is surely to avoid such a face-to-face at all cost.
Still, the more Joe speaks — it seems to me — the less he’ll garner the confidence of voters.
I’m still waiting for Hillary to swing in on a vine.
White House Race 2020 is shaping up to be quite the action-packed event. From the pandemic to protests to “Defund the Police” to CHOP/CHAZ to Monument Mania, it’s a wild ride.
Stay in your seats at all times, and keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle. I’m sure there’s more rip-roarin’ raucousness to come.
We’ve got a ways to go yet, and anything could happen. Well, virtually anything.
