Amid Impeachment Madness, Trump's Approval Rating Climbs. But Look at What May Be Waiting

So how’s Donald Trump doing in the polls? Well, despite Impeachment Mania — or, perhaps, because of it — a new survey from Fox News shows his approval rating’s been on the move.

Up.

Fox reports:

Weeks of congressional hearings and debate have failed to move the electorate on impeachment, according to the latest Fox News Poll. At the same time, approval of President Trump’s job performance has climbed three points. Currently, 45 percent of voters approve of the job Trump’s doing, up from 42 percent in late October. Over half, 53 percent, disapprove. That lands the President almost exactly where he started the year, as 43 percent approved and 54 percent disapproved in January.

How can a president’s approval rating increase while he’s being impeached?

The Daily Wire seems similarly perplexed:

This is an odd development for the president, who should be facing declining numbers, given the way he’s been portrayed by Democrats and members of the mainstream media these last several weeks– as the villain in an complex conspiracy to collaborate with a foreign power to tank the chances of fellow 2020 presidential contender, former Vice President Joe Biden.

Putting aside the intricacies of Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, how believable is it that the Commander-in-Chief was afraid of Biden? And so much, he tried to squash the competition via a foreign power? Even though he doesn’t move a muscle without people finding out?

You may have observed, as have I, that he seems to have a fairly healthy ego. Personally, I don’t imagine him shakin’ in his boots over this guy:

Amid the impeachment hearings, this week the President tore it up — he signed trade deals with Canada, Mexico, and China — ending a months-long battle just before tariffs set in.

There was also, as noted by RedState’s Nick Arama earlier, “the USMCA deal, government spending bill and the House Defense Reauthorization bill that even includes money for his Space Force.”

But not all news is good for The Donald: 80% of Democrats still favor impeachment.

Still, a Firehouse Strategies poll last week had him trouncing former VP Joe in battleground states Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

And if the House votes along party lines and the Senate fails to convict — as is predicted — where does he land?

Could those events galvanize the Left?

Perhaps. But, in my view, they’re unlikely to win over purple voters.

Time will tell. And, of course, there’s plenty of time left ’til 2020 for things to get much, much more interesting.
