The Mayor of London Calls 'Far Right' President Trump an 'Egregious' Threat to the World's 'Hard-Won Rights and Freedoms'

Apparently, word of Donald Trump’s racist ways gets around.

Speaking to CNN, London Mayor Sadiq Khan claimed the President only appears to care about white Americans.

He laid things out on the 70th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization alliance.

Here’s Sadiq:

“The concern that we have is…when President Trump talks about America First — does he really mean white America first? That’s a big concern for many of us.”

And why would he think that? Maybe this:

“When you see…the President of the USA calling people rapists because they happen to be Mexican, having a travel ban against people of my faith, that leads to huge concerns across the world.”

Trump, of course, indeed referred to rapists coming over the border; but he didn’t claim all who cross are rapists.

Nor did he, as you surely know, institute a “Muslim travel ban.” He halted travel for select countries which had substantial Islamic populations; however, non-Muslims from those places were also prohibited while Muslims from other nations were allowed in.

Perhaps Khan limits his news to only a few heavily-Democratic sources.

But whatever Sadiq’s thoughts of the Commander-in-Chief’s racist mania, he gave the Prez props for his handling of the NATO summit, for which he was in town:

“Even I’ve got to give credit. In three-and-a-half years, there’s been a day where he’s been impressive. I should give credit where it’s due.”

Here’s CNN with more about that:

Trump’s unorthodox behavior at the summit seems to have caused amusement among world leaders. A video, first circulated by CBC, appears to show French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson jokingly discussing Trump’s extended sessions with the press.

Feast your eyes:

To actress-turned-activist Alyssa Milano, that sealed the deal — Donald Trump absolutely must be impeached.

Listen and learn, but beware some Rashida Tlaib-level strong language:

Back to Sadiq, CNN noted he fears Trump’s influence, which has handily made its way across the pond:

“You’ve got politicians in the UK and those in the far-right copying Donald Trump,” Khan said, adding that Johnson and Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage were among those who aped the President’s language.

“There are people here who mimic him and copy him and he gives them succor,” the Labour Party politician said.

“He gives them confidence and views that used to be in the periphery, people who used to be in the margins, are in the mainstream.”

And elsewhere, too:

“In Hungary, look at Orban. In Poland, look at Duda, in Italy, look at Salvini, in France, look at Le Pen.”

Hence, there are “fears being stoked against minority communities.”

And that race-obsessed Trumpness is the antithesis of progress:

“It’s the very opposite of what NATO is all about. It’s the very opposite of what the EU is all about. The very opposite of the multi-lateralism that the US and the UK have led on for the last 70 years.”

But Sadiq is on the other side of racial allegations as well:

[His Labour Party] is embroiled in an antisemitism scandal and is accused of failing to address members’ racist behavior. Khan admits the party was too slow to respond.

Nevertheless, the greater threat by far, it seems, is Trump — and that enemy of liberty, conservatism.

In June, Sadiq wrote an op-ed for The Observer explaining it all:

Donald Trump is just one of the most egregious examples of a growing global threat. The far right is on the rise around the world, threatening our hard-won rights and freedoms and the values that have defined our liberal, democratic societies for more than seventy years … And they are gaining ground and winning power and influence in places that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.

Sounds like a world in crisis.
