Were you hoping Hillary Clinton was a lesbian?

One advocate speaking with NBC News is disappointed with the former First Lady’s response to a question during her recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show.

Here’s what Hil had to say:

“Well, contrary to what you might hear, I actually like men.”

I guess Howard had a hard time swallowing that:

“Raise your right hand. You’ve never had a lesbian affair?”

Mrs. Clinton laughed.

“Never, never, never! Never even been tempted, thank you very much.”

She played the field back in the day:

“I dated a lot of different people, and I liked a lot of them. I was pretty popular. I was okay popular. … Boys were not my problem.”

Reporter Trish Bendix didn’t appreciate the response.

And Trish is no run-of-the-mill writer — she’s a member of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, and she won the Sarah Pettit Memorial Award for excellence in LGBT media in 2015.

Trish told the Peacock she’s upset with Hillary’s characterization of lesbianism — employing the word “tempted” made it sound as if woman-to-woman lovin’ is downright salacious.

I’m not sure she’s right about that; things I’ve never been tempted by: cocaine, ham salad, cooking shows, crocs, and a V8.

At least one of those isn’t a particularly inappropriate indulgence.

But Trish is flat frustrated:

“It’s so frustrating when public figures like Hillary feel the need to dispel lesbian rumors in a way that equates lesbianism or queerness with salaciousness, and that’s ultimately what I dislike about the way she phrased it.”

In her view, Hillary could’ve totally claimed she’s straight without bringing a wrecking ball to the party:

“I think there’s a way to refute untrue ideas about one’s own identity without saying something damaging to others.”

During Clinton’s time with Howard, they delved into a number of personal topics.

And it was a long time coming: In May, Stern had claimed she may have won the 2016 election — which she lost by less than 80,000 in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin — had she only gone on his show and revealed some of her humanity.

Now she pops up there…could this be prep for her big 2020 splash?

Howard theorized over the summer what they could’ve dished on three years ago:

“Here is a woman who dedicated her whole life to public service. What was her life like as a little girl growing up? What was she thinking when she was secretary of state? What was she thinking when she was the first lady? Was she saying to herself, ‘I wish I could be president,’ or was she satisfied with that? There were a million questions I could have asked her that I think would have humanized her.”

Another question he’d mentioned: How was her romance with Bill?

She covered a bit of that Wednesday, but she also spoke of Mr. Goodlookin’ — the strappin’ guy who preceded William Jefferson. Turns out, the dude she dated before Bible Bill was a regular Rock Hudson:

“He was so handsome. He was really handsome. Really handsome. He looked like a Greek god. … Yeah, he was really attractive.”

Wow — she’s right. She really does like men.

Is Trish overreacting, or was it all code for “Lesbians are deplorables”?

2020 could hang in the balance…she needs to be “pretty popular.”
