What’s going on with Kanye West? He’s moved toward “radical obedience to Jesus Christ” (here) and scored a #1 album with a title proclaiming the lordship of Jesus.
As I noted a week and a half ago, that “May Be the Most Significant News of the Year.”
The rapper’s certainly got a fan in Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott: He hailed Kanye’s recent visit to a Texas prison.
As reported by CNN, the 21-grammy-winning artist gave a surprise concert to 200 male inmates at Houston’s Harris County jail.
Subsequently, he “left inmates in tears.”
That was with the message that “Jesus is King.”
After kicking off with one performance for more than 200 men at the 701 San Jacinto building, @kanyewest ducked down into the underground tunnel and turned up in the main Baker Street jail to do a second show for a smaller crowd of women. https://t.co/VNJqoq3Ult pic.twitter.com/95ZFVWQ0HC

On November 15th, Jason Spencer, director of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, had offered praise as well:
“Say what you want about the man. But Kanye West and his choir brought some light to people who needed it today at the Harris County Jail.”

Gov. Greg reckoned it’d be “great if other artists followed Kanye’s lead.”
It makes for a better world:
“What Kanye West does to inspire the incarcerated is transformative. … Inmates who turn to God may get released earlier [because] of good behavior & may be less likely to commit future crimes.”
To Kanye, it’s more than just a concert. He explained, as captured in the video above:
“This is a mission, not a show.”
He’s certainly conveying a message not often heard in urban (or any commercial) music.
To his millions of fans, West is delivering songs with titles such as “Follow God,” “God Is,” and “Jesus is Lord.”
And, as far as Texas Governor Greg Abbott is concerned, he’s “Saving one soul at a time.”
How’s that for a story on the Sabbath?
Enjoy your Sunday — but you won’t at Chick-fil-A.
Kanye’s got a song about that, too. A complimentary one:
