AOC Claims the House's Refusal to Impeach is Even More Scandalous Than Trump's Crimes. Is This Goofiness Helping?

AOC Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Politics is a world full of scandal. Like the scandal of not impeaching Donald J. Trump. That would be, for all his lawbreaking.

So says Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

On Saturday night, the freshman congresswoman laid it out:

“At this point, the bigger national scandal isn’t the president’s lawbreaking behavior – it is the Democratic Party’s refusal to impeach him for it.”

She’s presumably referring to the Biden/Trump whistleblower controversy — for a great summary of it all, see here.

There seems to be a lot of talk among Democrats of Trump breaking laws left and right. That’d be far less confusing if it were paired with examples; but sometimes, ya just can’t catch a break.

Still, those across the aisle continue to fight evil, in whatever ways they can. Soldiers, such as California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, who explained his crusade on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday morning:

“If the president is essentially withholding military aid at the same time he is trying to browbeat a foreign leader into doing something illicit…then [impeachment] might be the only remedy that is co-equal to the evil that this conduct represents.”

As for the blowing of the whistle, while speaking to reporters Sunday morning Trump said he indeed previously discussed an investigation into Biden with Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and that the conversation was “absolutely perfect.”

Here’s the Commander-in-Chief:

“The conversation I had was largely congratulatory, with largely corruption – all of the corruption taking place – and largely the fact that we don’t want our people like Vice President Biden and his son creating to the corruption already in the Ukraine.”

Trump attorney Rudy Guiliani previously revealed Trump had talked to Volodymyr about an investigation into former VP Joe over “allegations,” amid also saying the President had not conversed about a look into Biden. That brought a wealth of uproar among Democrats, as I covered here.

Especially given anti-reparations (“I’ll be damned”), “gays are security risks” Joe’s 2020 White House bid, this story’s likely to plague us all for the next several merciless months.

But it’s not nearly as horrendous — as Alexandria pointed out — as a refusal to impeach.

However, as reported by USA Today, Republican California Rep. Devin Nunes views her assertion as crazy:

And later in the show, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., who is the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, accused Ocasio-Cortez of promoting a “socialist” agenda of “one-party control” of government.

“The more I think that they’re out there promoting this kind of craziness and silliness, the more that the American people are put off, and the more likely President Trump is re-elected,” Nunes added.

I’d say there’s a good chance he’s right — as MSNBC’s referenced last week, it seems the Democrats can’t help but overselling it (here). Maybe they should start small, with something like, “The President is rude.”

Or — maybe even better — “Donald Trump’s policy positions are wrong, and here’s why.”

“Beelzebub is evil” doesn’t seem nearly as effective.
