During a “Coffee with Your Congressman” event in a wealthy New Jersey suburb Tuesday, Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski reminded voters why they need illegal immigrants: to “[mow their] beautiful lawns.”

He explained:

“We have to think about the jobs, because the reason this happens is because there are a lot of jobs in our community that — like it or not, for better or worse — Americans are not willing to take.”

This is a notion offered up by politicians for several years now; it’s also an idea — it should be noted — that’s a big hunk o’ baloney.

If the pay is fair for the work, whatever the job, there are Americans ready to do it.

Just ask Mike Rowe (here); not everyone’s in training to be a software applications developer.

But Tom doesn’t believe that:

“I mean, who do you think is taking care of our seniors? Fifty percent of the eldercare workers in the state of New Jersey are immigrants, most of them legal – most of them documented – but certainly some of them are not. Who do you think is mowing our beautiful lawns in Somerset County? We don’t usually ask, but a lot of those workers are undocumented.”

There are also American teenagers mowing lawns, and American adults with lawncare businesses — in areas or situations where they haven’t been priced out of the opportunity.

Tom wanted all of y’all to know that teenagers now are too consumed with robots to push a mower:

“There just aren’t a lot of kids who – sorry – are from Montgomery High [School], who are going to be doing that full time. You guys are going into robotics, for goodness sake.”

Amid the crowd, a young person interjected that they work at a place teaching kids to code their own video games.

Tom replied, “You work at Code Ninjas — exactly. You’re a bunch of elitists. You’re not going to mow lawns.”

Here’s perhaps a shock for Tom: For many Americans of all walks of life, it isn’t about whether the American teenager down the street or the American-owned company in town or an illegal immigrant is going to mow their lawns.

For many, many Americans…

…brace yourself, Tom…and Beto…and Nancy…

…many Americans…

…mow their OWN lawns.

They actually own mowers and use ’em.

Without any help at all from illegal immigrants.

Or anyone else.

Tom needs help himself: This is only his first term in Congress, and he’s in a swing district. The promise of a second term is tenuous.

But this ain’t his first political rodeo: he was Obama’s Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor.

Recently, Mr.Malinowski became the first swing-representing Dem to endorse the impeachment of Donald Trump.

That seems risky, but I don’t have time to think about it — I’ve got other articles to write.

And yardwork to do.
