Obama-Era Homeland Security Officials Lambast the Dems' New Wave of Open-Border Candidates: 'It’s Going to Hurt Them'

Among 2020 Democratic candidates, open borders seems to be the hip new thing.

You want enforcement? Nerd!

The new class of left-wing congresspeople seem way past the old folks’ oppressive laws. And it pays to be cool.

But some veterans of the Department of Homeland Security are speaking out against the move toward a borderless world.

Speaking to The Daily Caller, former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Thomas Homan had the following to say about left-wing Oval Office hopefuls after their first two debates:

“Everything they said about decriminalizing illegal entry, offering medical care for illegal aliens, they are talking about abolishing ICE, all of this rhetoric from the Democratic presidential candidates – it’s not going to help the crisis at the border. The last thing they should be doing is offering more incentives to come here.”

There’s a problem, and the country needs a solution:

“I didn’t hear one idea how they’re going to figure the border. I didn’t hear one idea how they’re going to fix the system. It’s all about ‘What more can we do for those here illegally. What more can we do for those who violate our laws and enter the country illegally.’ They are definitely on the wrong side of this issue and I think it’s going to hurt them.”

Some Democrats appear to believe that the problem is the suggestion that there’s a problem. Julian Castro wants to provide healthcare to illegal immigrants, decriminalize sneaking into the U.S., and end deportation. Yet, when George Stephanopoulos asked the former Obama cabinet member on ABC’s This Week whether his positions equate to open borders, he offered this:

“There’s no way that we can call that open borders.”

It should also be noted, though, that Julian recently claimed men have a right to federally-funded abortions (here). So he may be having some…problems.

Cory “Farticus” Booker (here) has proclaimed that, as president, he’d “virtually eliminate our nation’s reliance on immigration incarceration, including ending the use of for-profit detention facilities” — with an executive order.

Thomas isn’t the only former DHS staffer speaking out against such positions. Jeh Johnson — the Democratic Secretary of Homeland Security under Obama — also thinks it’s hogwash.

He told The Washington Post:

“That is unworkable, unwise and does not have the support of a majority of American people or the Congress, and if we had such a policy, instead of 100,000 apprehensions a month, it will be multiples of that.”

A 30+ year Customs and Border Protection veteran spoke anonymously to the Daily Caller News Foundation, also downing the Dems’ new wave:

“I believe that decriminalizing illegal entry would mean that the U.S. moves to open borders. Then what comes into play is the idea that these minor offenses are not considered as reasons for deportation.”

As reported by TDC:

The official said he once considered himself a lifelong supporter of Democrats, but has since left the party over its support of more liberal immigration policies.

There’s a revolution within the Democratic Party. The young have staked their claim. They’re here to replace the old (on late-term abortion, too — see here).

And with new blood comes new ideas.

One of those seems somewhat at odds with the idea of an America: As Donald Trump once pointed out, “If you don’t have borders, you don’t have a country.”
