Are you sick of hearing about politics from actors? Well, take a nice break with something notably different: actors John Krasinski and Chris Pratt promoting The Murph Challenge for Memorial Day.

On social media over the last week, A Quiet Place actor/director John and (openly-Christian) Guardian of the Galaxy star Chris announced they’d be doing The Murph Challenge, and they hoped others would join them.

So what’s the Murph?

It’s meant to honor U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy (played by Taylor Kitsch in the film Lone Survivor — a really great movie, by the way).

Michael was killed in 2005 by gunfire while serving in Iraq, amid a maneuver which allowed SEAL Marcus Luttrell (played by another man of faith, Mark Wahlberg) to escape and survive.

Newsweek explains:

The Murph Challenge is a fundraiser for the Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy Scholarship Foundation and in 2018, raised almost $250,000. The foundation currently awards 27 or more scholarships each year.

And it involves gettin’ really sweaty:

The “MURPH” is more than just a workout, it is a tradition that helps push us, humble us, and dedicate a bit of pain and sweat to honor a man who gave everything he had,” the website [says].

The workout begins with a one-mile run, followed by 100 pull-ups, then 200 pushups and 300 squats. It then concludes with a second one-mile run. After completing the challenge, registered participants are encouraged to submit their time on The Murph Challenge website.

A hundred pull-ups?? Do they understand what a pull-up is?? I’d guess the average adult can’t do more than 4 in a row. And 300 squats??

Make that real, real, reeeal sweaty.

Here’s more from the Challenge’s site:

The Murph Challenge is the Official annual fundraiser of the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, presented by Forged®. It is also one of the primary means of funding for the Foundation on an annual basis. YOUR support is what drives our success!

Since 2014, Forged® has raised over $1,000,000+ for the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation through The Murph Challenge campaign. In 2018, The Murph Challenge Fundraiser provided a vehicle to raise nearly $250,000 in order to begin construction on the LT Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum/Sea Cadet Training Facility in Long Island, NY! In addition to that, and ONLY with such overwhelming support and success, the Foundation was also able to add four additional scholarships in 2018, now providing the opportunity to award 27 or more scholarships each and every year!

Last week, Chris Pratt posted an Instagram video of himself working out in LA, explaining, “We got a big group of people doing The Murph Challenge this year to celebrate Memorial Day and to memorialize our fallen heroes, especially Lieutenant Michael Murphy.”

He added a Thank you to veterans:

“Thank you to Lt. Michael P Murphy and the millions of soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We live this life because you laid down yours, gratitude and prayers for all of you.”

It isn’t the acting duo’s first time to endorse the Challenge. They posted this video from Europe back in 2017:

Do it if you can.

And if you can’t, maybe at least watch Lone Survivor.
