While watching even just slightly old movies, I find myself constantly saying, “Wow — they’d never put that in a movie now.” And frequently, it’s something I find completely innocuous.

Contemporary scripts seem to be heavily filtered according to left-wing notions of correctness.

But do people like that? What do all of you think? How about the rest of the country?

According to a recent Morning Consult/Hollywood Reporter poll, most people don’t want movie remakes of classic films to be liberated of original, potentially offensive elements.

In the May 9th-11th study, only 21% believed the powers that be should 86 “offensive stereotypes or plotlines that might offend people.”

On the other hand, 55% thought the new versions should stick as closely as possible to the originals.

That 55% was comprised by a big chunk among both Republicans and Democrats, as well as by whites, blacks, and hispanics.

As for Democrats — the least favorable of questionable material — the number still held at 47%.

Morning Consult related the poll to Disney’s live-action remakes, including brand-spankin’-new Will Smith vehicle Aladdin.

As for 2019’s Tim Burton-directed Dumbo, The Mouse cut a scene from the 1941 original in which the circus elephant meets a group of racially stereotypical crows — headed up by “Jim Crow.”

The up-and-coming Lady and the Tramp will also be missing a piece: Disney omitted the Siamese cats, for fear of offending Asians.

Weren’t those really popular among LATT fans?

Morning Consult summed up its findings this way:

“New data shows that consumers are willing to overlook potentially controversial elements if the live action version stays true to the original.”

Well there ya go.
