On Fox News program The Ingraham Angle Friday, pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Paul Hruz claimed transgender therapy for children is destructive and unfounded.
Regarding hormone therapy for kids, host Laura Ingraham asked Paul why such little media attention’s been given to the medical opposition.
Paul said he believes the intentions of those in favor are honorable, but the science behind the diagnosis and treatment is “poor”:
“It’s fairly important to recognize that what is being put forward with the goal of truly helping these individuals that are suffering is based on very poor science and any effort to draw attention to the poor science and the potential very negative and serious consequences that these hormonal interventions really has not been given the attention they deserve.”
Paul explained that puberty and adolescence can be damaged by the treatment currently being administered to youth:
“[Treatment can do] very serious harms to their bodies throughout the rest of their life — without even considering whether there are alternative options to help them and even recognizing that a large number of children that question their gender identity are going to, if merely left alone, are going to realign their identity with their biological sex.”
Laura referenced studies indicating that “85% to 90% of children no longer experience feelings of gender dysphoria after having gone through puberty.”
Paul generally concurred. “The estimates vary,” he noted, “but it’s the majority.”
The doctor also asserted that medical professionals putting children on a track to change their gender perpetuates the issue, “really changing that statistic drastically from the normal trajectory we normally see.”
Perhaps most substantially, the pediatrician insisted that even pro-transgender-children doctors know the science for all this stinks, and what little is known about the impact of treatment on kids as they age is cause for great concern:
“[T]he amazing concern about the growth of this particular approach to dealing with children that have this transgendered identity is to adopt a single intervention that’s based on very, very poor quality science. And even those that are advocating for this intervention, that are involved in this intervention for children, will acknowledge that the science really has not been done to really establish what the long-term effects are and already the data that’s coming forward raises serious concerns. Not only how these children are going to normally move through the developmental stages and their identity, but the effects of the hormonal treatment on the body.”
His bottom line:
“These children are very much being harmed.”
Personally, I find disconcerting the heavy drugging of America’s children in general. Injecting a growing body with hormones designed to force a change in his or her normal development seems like it couldn’t help but do significant damage.
