At Media Matters, Accuracy Doesn't. The Left Feeds its Readers the Right & Gets it Wrong

Ever wonder what explicitly left-wing media is telling its followers about conservative news coverage?

In February, ran a piece pitching to its readers various ways right-leaning sources misrepresent reality.

One of its targets was yours truly.

Sometime during the 2nd month of the year (the site doesn’t date its articles — something I find maddening), outspoken vegan Cory Booker gave an interview to

During the conversation, he said the following:

“You see the planet earth moving towards what is the Standard American Diet. We’ve seen this massive increase in consumption of meat produced by the industrial animal agriculture industry. The tragic reality is this planet simply can’t sustain billions of people consuming industrially produced animal agriculture because of environmental impact. It’s just not possible.”

It seems to have become extremely trendy on the left side of the aisle to say the Earth can’t take this or that — there are too many people, there are too many farts, everything’s “unsustainable,” and we’ll all soon perish.

There is never, of course, proof of this, and environmentalists have been spelling out doom — and being embarrassingly wrong about it — for decades. Aside from the 70’s Ice Age threat, see Al Gore’s massive fireball fumble here.

Furthermore, the shouters of impending calamity introduce what seems to me the most immature of ideas: that a city, state, or even the U.S. will dictate the fate of the entire globe by changing a few things (please see here).

Talk about American arrogance — we’re not the only ones here. We are 328 million strong. The world is 7.6 billion.

The world wins.

Back to Cory and VegNews:

Booker says the “devastating impact” of greenhouse gases produced by the meat industry is “just not practical.”

“The numbers just don’t add up,” he said. “We will destroy our planet unless we start figuring out a better way forward when it comes to our climate change and our environment.”

I wrote an article on the VegNews interview (seen here), asserting that Cory’s statements weren’t scientific, that America is a drop in the bucket, and also this:

[B]y the time the spinning globe dies (or, really, self-destructs) due to its own natural system of carnivorism, hopefully the Green New Deal will have eliminated that most sinister of AOC-targeted enemies: cow farts (here).

I furthermore recommended a new nickname for Cory: Farticus.

Here’s Media Matters for America’s reporting on my write-up:

RedState: Booker “dropped some (non)science recently” in his pro-veganism interview. The RedState post mocked Booker’s interview, calling his comments “really idiotic” and “(non)science,” and bizarrely claimed that the relatively recent invention of industrial-scale animal farming is part of Earth’s “natural system of carnivorism.” The article ended with a reference to Booker’s conduct during Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, suggesting the senator should now be called “Farticus” for “leading the brigade against those Nazi air biscuits” and for “eating so much fruit.”

I stand by the nickname.

They got some stuff right — my story was indeed titled “Cory Booker Continues His ‘Say Really Idiotic Things’ Series: You Must Go Vegan Or Destroy The Earth.” So “idiotic”? Check.

But I did not, in any way, “[bizarrely claim] that the relatively recent invention of industrial-scale animal farming is part of Earth’s ‘natural system of carnivorism.’”

That was a flat-out lie.

In fact, I made literally no mention at all of “the relatively recent invention of industrial-scale animal farming.”

They think I believe the industrial revolution came from the dirt? That human inventions are part of Mother Nature?

I only said that people are going to continue eating meat. And yes — eating meat is the natural way for much of the planet’s animals. Including humans.

But for people who only know what they read on MediaMatters, RedState is a place where people make “bizarre claims.” ‘Cause, ya know, we’re crazy.

For more on the MM’s big report — which also addressed coverage by Fox, National Review, The Federalist and others, enjoy, my fellow loons.
