I like Roseanne.

The person, that is.

By her own admission, she has some problems. But — or should I say, apropos — she seems genuine.

The comedienne claims her 10-months-ago tweet about Valerie Jarrett was unrelated to race, and I believe her.

The entertainment industry didn’t appear to. Or maybe it just didn’t care (as suggested here).

What was the culprit in her career’s destruction? Ambien? Wine? A string of headaches for network higherups?

According to The Washington Post’s Thursday story, it was something else entirely.

Roseanne told the paper blame squarely lies with a person: long-time co-worker, actress Sara Gilbert.

The star says Sara posted a tweet that came out 27 minutes before her eponymous sitcom’s cancellation, and she therefore views Ms. Gilbert as the cause of grand destruction.

“Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least.”

Roseanne put it in no uncertain terms:

“She destroyed the show and my life with that tweet. She will never get enough until she consumes my liver with a fine Chianti.”

The ready-to-sue entertainer (here) also says she was lied to by Roseanne’s executive producer.

As per Fox:

She claimed to the outlet that she was told by the show’s executive producer, Tom Werner, that she would be a hero if she signed over her rights to the characters and saved the jobs of the people who would be fired in the wake of the series revival’s cancellation. She claims he told her he would go out and say she’s not a racist and even keep the door open for her to return someday.

However, those hopes were dashed when the Roseanne character was killed off by way of an opioid overdose in the first episode of the spinoff.

In response to Rosie’s accusation, Sara provided a short statement to the Post:

“While I’m extremely disappointed and heartbroken over the dissolution of the original show, she will always be family, and I will always love Roseanne.”
