Rep. Dan Crenshaw: Budget Bill is a Joke, Completely Inadequate for Border Security

How’s the budget bill in the area of border support? According to Texas Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw, it stinks.

On Thursday, the former Navy Seal gave the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2019 the voted Thumbs Down, calling it, essentially, a joke where border security is concerned:

“I reluctantly voted against this bill. There are many things to like in this bill and many examples of good-faith compromises. But this vote was about the border security debate, an issue which shouldn’t be debatable in the first place. There are approximately 400,000 illegal immigrants apprehended while crossing our border each year, and this bill does not take the necessary steps to fix this problem. This issue is not about who wins arbitrary political battles; it’s about the security and sovereignty of our nation. When will we start taking it seriously and finally give our border agents the resources they’ve requested?”

Despite Dan’s disappointment with the bill, it passed in the House to the tune of 300-128. Previously, it had skated through the Senate thanks to 83 of 99 ballots.

The bill appropriates only $1.38 billion for a barrier to the south, targeting a 55-mille stretch in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley.

As reported by UPI, there’s no allocation for more Border Patrol officers. This, as per Dan, is critical.

The Daily Wire noted that, while traveling with a deputy chief along the southern Texas cusp, the eye-patched politician — who achieved a much-ballyhooed November victory over Saturday Night Live derision (here) — asked how many of the previous day’s 1,000 illegal aliens had gone unseen by electronic surveillance. He was surprised to learn that at least 170 had escaped, thanks to a shortage of agents.

Dan remarked:

“I was always under the impression, because Democrats keep saying that all you need are drones and censors, it’s the magical solution: It just solves itself. But I guess that’s not true.”

“No sir” was the reply.

As Trump indicated in a briefing Friday, $1.38 isn’t the end of the road. I covered previously Fox News host Brian Kilmeade’s Thursday night assertion that The Donald had found access to $8 billion (here). That was confirmed Friday by the White House.

RedState’s Elizabeth Vaughn provided Trump’s stated plan:

“We will have a national emergency, and we will then be sued. We will possibly get a bad ruling, and then we’ll get another bad ruling. Then we’ll end up in the Supreme Court, and hopefully we’ll get a fair shake, and we’ll win at the Supreme Court — just like the [travel] ban.”

And the battle continues.

Watch the President’s announcement in the video below. For those wondering, the musical note he keeps hitting in his strange delivery of court-appeal prediction is a B. If you’ve got an instrument handy, feel free to play along.
