More Left-Wing Incivility -- Elected Democrat to Vice President Pence: "F*** You"

On Thursday, newly-elected Rep. Rashida Tlaib — having just taken her oath on the Quran — belted out a staggeringly vulgar and juvenile proclamation against the President of the United States (here):

“We’re gonna impeach that motherf***er!”

Stunning.

A blight on American political history.

Should this be the conduct of a religious person?

Whatever the case, it isn’t the first time an elected Democrat has nosedived into a deep pool of outrageous incivility.

Here’s a story you may not have heard.

Back in June, Vice President Mike Pence visited Philadelphia to help raise funds for then-GOP gubernatorial nominee Scott Wagner.

In response, state Rep. Brian Sims –Philly’s first openly gay legislator — rolled out a special kind of hospitality to the nation’s Vice Commander-in-Chief with this Facebook post:

OFFICIAL WELCOME: Vice President Mike Pence let me be the first person to officially welcome you to the City of Brotherly Love, and to my District in the State House!

To be clear, we’re a City of soaring diversity. We believe in the power of all people to live and to contribute: Black, Brown, Queer, Trans, Atheist, Immigrant, we want you and we’ll respect you.

So keep that in mind while you’re here raising money to attack more families, spread more lies, blaspheme with your Bible, and maybe even talk to a woman without your wife in the room. We have plenty of them, and they’re pretty much all more powerful and more real than you have ever been.

So…get bent, then get out! — Officially Welcoming in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Hundreds protested VP Pence’s arrival over the President’s “policy” regarding family separation at the border. Presumably, none of them realized it was not policy, per se, but determined law — thanks to the Clinton administration, a Democratic Congress, and the left-wing 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (here).

Regardless, whatever the banter of the protestors, their reception of Pence was surely no more egregious than that of Rep. Sims.

In decades past, no politician would’ve considered making such a gesture toward the leadership of the country. Rashida Tlaib’s stunt was merely the latest in a series of revolutionary plunges into the disgraceful. And we are all the worse for it. As parties, as Americans, as people.

As constituents — whether liberal or conservative — we must hold our elected leaders to a higher standard in the way of exchange in the arena of ideas. That goes for the GOP as well as the Dems. And in order to do that, we must adhere to that meritorious behavior ourselves. Political discourse has sunken to unimagined lows. And unless we clean up our act, Washington — which, I believe, is downstream from the internet — is going to become a very, very dirty and ugly place. One from which we may never return.
