In Light of Kavanaugh, MSNBC Guest Predicts a Possible 'Thousand-Year Reich'

Sometimes, predictions eye the near future. Other times, they offer a forecast a millenia out.

Elie Mystal recently took a swing at the latter.

The Above the Law editor dropped by MSNBC to wax philosophic on the effect of Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation.

Elie called the President a racist “devil” and warned Kavanaugh’s placement could allow for a “thousand-year Reich.”

The man wears glasses, but that’s some peculiarly powerful farsightedness.

Leading up to the comment, the program’s panel labeled the Republican Party as anti-woman Nazis.

Then Mystal went mystic:

“The thing about making a deal with the devil is that the devil backs up his bargain. The devil does not welch.”

And on top of that:

“Trump has delivered for these people on the things that they care about most; he has delivered racism for these people. He has delivered misogyny for these people, and now he’s delivered the Supreme Court for these people, which is something they’ve been trying to get for a generation.”

“These people,” if I understand correctly, assumes no conservative or Republican could possibly be watching MSNBC.

“So then the question now becomes, not so much like, ‘Oh, will this stick for the Republicans?’ I think it will stick for the Republicans; this is what they want. The question is, what are the Democrats going to do? Democratic turnout doesn’t need to be high for a midterm; it needs to be high for a presidential election. And that’s what we’re about to see. We’re going to see if this reign that they now have control over all three branches of government, we’re going to see if this reign lasts for thirty days, or two years, or a thousand-year Reich. Because that is how, that is what these people have set themselves up for. And it’s simply a question of whether or not the Democrats are going to join the battle and meet them at the polls.”

Elie’s nothing if not original; it’s not often someone predicts a “reich.”

Still, the general tone isn’t so new for MSNBC — in the recent past, they’ve compared Trump to Hitler (here) and Stalin (here), compared Kavanaugh to Cosby (here), called Trump women “dead inside” (here), and claimed the President wants to round up and murder people (here).

So goes politics, and so goes MSNBC. Let’s look back in 1,000 years and see if Elie was right.
