Boston Police Captain's Islamic Terrorist Son Sentenced

Holy cow.

A police department captain in Boston — home of the 2013 Islamic terrorist attack which caused three deaths and 264 injuries — has the unusual distinction of being father to a man officials have deemed a “committed soldier” of the Islamic State.

Not uncoincidentally, Alexander Ciccolo — who now goes by Ali Al Amriki — was convicted Wednesday of planning to kill Americans on a college campus and at a gay bar via rifles and makeshift bombs.

Note: ABC’s coverage of the story claims the firearms at issue were “assault rifles,” of which there is actually no such thing.

Thanks for spreading misinformation, ABC.

And thanks to Ciccolo’s guilty verdict, he’ll have 20 years to ponder such issues of fake news: the 26-year-old will be surfing the waves of Plenty of Free Time in an ocean of incarceration.

The sentencing comes three years after Ciccolo’s father notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation about junior’s desire to kill and blow stuff up for Allah.

The accused’s attorneys painted him as a mentally ill man with a history of substance abuse who lacked the capacity to carry out his barely-sketched plans.

The prosecution went the other way. The Boston Bureau’s Special Agent in Charge Hank Shaw insisted Ciccolo was poised to inflict a hardy amount of carnage:

“Make no mistake, Alexander Ciccolo was a committed soldier of ISIS who wanted to kill innocent people at a United States university with assault rifles and pressure cooker bombs, not an unwitting dupe who didn’t understand the gravity of what he was doing.”

Also on the destruction docket: executing non-Muslim students online.

Ciccolo’s arrest came in July 2015, following his receipt of four guns purchased from an FBI associate.

Oops!

He also intended to employ explosives similar to the Boston bombings’ pressure cooker devices.

Speaking of, before he was taken into custody, Ciccolo posted to social media a picture of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, along with the caption “JUSTICE FOR JAHAR [sic] KEEP THE HOPE.”

In a call while imprisoned, he expressed a need for more terroristic murder:

“We’re at the point where Muslims are justified in using violence. Yeah, I do agree with that.”

Well. That’s nice.

Alexander’s mother, Shelley MacInnes, is clearly in denial:

“‘[He] has a deep respect for all living things. I’m sure some people are out there saying, ‘Yeah, right.’ But he literally would not hurt a fly.”

Yeah, right.

We’re in a seriously dangerous position when the native-born can be turned against their own country and countrymen. The fact that that can happen in a law enforcement family makes me especially thankful we have a president who will call Islamic terrorism what it is. If we can’t even speak of the problem, how can we possibly address it? Thank goodness the days of Obama’s “mum” are gone, replaced by a fella who, let’s just say, is a smidge less filtered.
