The Empire Strikes Back: Lara Trump Responds to Omarosa's Secret Tape and Claim of White House Bribery

On Thursday, Lara Trump struck back at Omarosa Manigault Newman.

Previously, the reality villain had claimed she was offered a job in exchange for keeping her trap shut concerning the President.

Newman attempted to back up her story Thursday afternoon on MSNBC, courtesy of a secretly-taped conversation. The President’s daughter-in-law can be heard discussing the details of a possible Trump campaign position, clarifying that the for-the-moment media darling would have to remain “positive.”

On offer: $15,000 per month, for a year. That’s $180,000, compared to her previous White House salary of $179,700.

In case Donald Trump reads RedState: I will gladly take the job.

On the recording, Lara explains the importance of positivity:

“Clearly, if you come on board the campaign, like, we can’t have, we gotta — you know — everything, everybody positive, right?”

The spot was also set to involve a bit of speaking here and there:

“Sometimes, you know, come to New York for occasional meetings. But I would love if you could, you know, occasionally go do speaking engagements, and that sort of thing for us. I think you’d be awesome doing that. So it doesn’t really matter where you are.”

Once again, Mr. President: I have no stage fright, whatsoever.

Omarosa told MSNBC she understood the implication:

“They were not offering me a real job. … They didn’t really care if I showed up.”

I’m PERFECT for this job!

Newman asserted that similar phony positions had been offered to other former White House staffers as payment for signing nondisclosure agreements.

Major surprise: Lara Trump didn’t much appreciate the tape and the accusation. She said so in a statement:

“Woman to woman, I shared a connection with Omarosa as a friend and a campaign sister, and I am absolutely shocked and saddened by her betrayal and violation on a deeply personal level.”

Then she added one of these:

“I hope it’s all worth it for you, Omarosa, because some things you just can’t put a price on.”

Newman wasn’t directly dismissed from her position as Director of Communications for the Office of Public Liaison by Trump. In fact, the President later acted as if he hadn’t known it was going to occur (see the statement at the bottom of this article). Lara explained she’d offered the job because her family was concerned and “cared so much” about Newman.

“That’s why I reached out to offer her a position with the 2020 Trump Campaign before we knew anything about the gross violations of ethics and integrity during her White House tenure.”

Lara also called the tape a “fraud,” saying the conversations on it occurred across multiple weeks.

Over the last few days, President Trump has called his disgraced former employee a “lowlife,” “wacky and deranged,” and a “dog.”

Omarosa defended the release of the tape to MSNBC:

“I’ll do what I need to do to protect myself.”

Does she need to do all this?
