Trump slammed Pakistan for 'lies & deceit' in a New Year's Day tweet that said Islamabad had played U.S. leaders for 'fools'. 'No more,' Trump tweeted. Meanwhile, Pakistan had no official comment but Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif tweeted that his government was preparing a response that 'will let the world know the truth.' On Saturday, President Trump was scheduled to be in Mar-a-Lago hosting a $100,000-a-couple dinner for the anniversary of his inauguration. Now? Well…

Straight from the press office:

The White House is now confirming that the president’s scheduled departure for Florida this afternoon has been canceled.

Having met with Sen. Schumer at the White House this afternoon, it seems clear that he is not expecting a positive development in the shutdown fight.

After the meeting, Schumer indicated no deal was reached.

“We had a long and detailed meeting,” Schumer told reporters on his return to the U.S. Capitol after the approximately 90-minute meeting. The chiefs of staff for each man – John Kelly for Trump and Mike Lynch for Schumer – also attended.

“We discussed all of the major outstanding issues. We made some progress, but we still have a good number of disagreements. The discussions will continue,” Schumer said.

The deadline approaches.
