It was so well received at its premiere that there were five encores, and Mozart himself crowd-surfed for at least 10 minutes. On this date in 1931, the Empire State Building was dedicated and opened. It was the tallest building in the world at the time, at 102 stories (1,250 feet). The investors behind the construction claimed the spire atop the building would be used as a mooring post for dirigibles, although it never was. In this universe.
