Eliana Johnson broke news today with the release of a confidential campaign plan from Georgia Democratic Senate candidate Michelle Nunn.  The campaign plan details the demographic models, special interest groups, donor targets, and the assumption in the campaign plan that Nunn will have a compliant media. This is what Johnson focused on in much of her post. For me, the real news comes in the second half of Johnson’s post.

While the campaign strategy memo stressed the importance of the Jewish community for volunteers and fundraising, with a projected goal of $250,000 from Jewish donors, it also noted that any money from the Jewish community would be dependent on her stance on Israel. The memo also noted that Nunn had funneled money to “problematic entities” while at the Points of Light Foundation.

So far, Nunn hasn’t clarified her stance on Israel on her campaign website. And as for the “problematic entities” to which the leaked memo referred?

According to National Review, tax forms show that Michelle Nunn directed funds to organizations which, in turn, helped fund Hamas.

[Nunn] served as CEO of Points of Light since 2007 and, according to the document, it has made grants to “terrorists” and “inmates” during her tenure.

According to the IRS Form 990s that Points of Light filed in 2008 and 2011, the organization gave a grant of over $33,000 to Islamic Relief USA, a charity that says it strives to alleviate “hunger, illiteracy, and diseases worldwide.” Islamic Relief USA is part of a global network of charities that operate under the umbrella of Islamic Relief Worldwide. Islamic Relief USA says on its website that it is a legally separate entity from its parent organization, but that they share “a common vision, mission, and family identity.”

In June, Israel banned the charity from operating in the country because, according to Israeli officials, it was funneling cash to Hamas. In 2006, Israelis arrested Islamic Relief Worldwide’s Gaza coordinator, Ayaz Ali. They said he was working to “transfer funds and assistance to various Hamas institutions and organizations.” Ali admitted to cooperating with local Hamas operatives while working in Jordan and, on his computer, Israeli officials found photographs of “swastikas superimposed on IDF symbols,” and of Nazi officials, Osama bin Laden, and al-Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

So here we have a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate, who has yet to take a public stance on the current conflict between Israel and Hamas. We now find out that she helped, inadvertently or not, to fund the terrorists that Israel fights against.  While strategizing to get donations from Jewish communities. With a message of TBD…

If this isn’t a perfect example of the type of hubris that has infected the Democratic party, I don’t know what is.

But then, this is what happens when one party is constantly given a pass by the media. They begin to assume there is nothing that they can’t get away with.

Honestly though, you have to be a certain kind of scumbag to ask the Jewish community to fund your political campaign when you have provided assistance to the Nazi born anti-semitic terrorist group known as Hamas.

Or just a Georgia Democrat.
