Iran is being pushed to the brink, and it's showing in their increasing desperation. They seem to be flailing now, with the regime issuing new threats and doubtful assertions with every passing hour.
The latest threat is aimed at the son of President Trump and Melania Trump: Barron. Iran is claiming to have a $10 million on Barron's head, while also claiming Barron's whereabouts and movements are "monitored."
This news should be taken with more than a few grains of salt.
Iranian state media broadcast a chilling three-minute video fantasizing about killing Barron Trump in a disturbing escalation against President Trump and his family — as Tehran braces for an onslaught of additional crushing economic penalties.
The clip titled “Where to kill Barron Trump” claimed to show the movements of President Trump’s 20-year-old son, claiming he is “fully monitored” and showing depictions of the dorms at New York University’s Constance Milstein & Family Global Academic Center, according to a translation of the video by Euronews.
The depictions of the rooms and dormitory buildings are probably available in various places. But Iran did mention a few specifics.
It further stated that it uncovered Barron’s accounts for Xbox, FIFA video games, and Discord, as well as those of his classmates, naming two of them.
In addition to the disturbing video, multiple reports indicated that the regime placed a $10 million bounty on Barron Trump’s head. The Post could not independently verify the alleged bounty, the claims about his movements or the statements about his classmates.
While Iran's capacity to do, well, much of anything is badly degraded, and they are about to be hit with the mother of all economic crackdowns, so it's not at all clear that they would be able to pay $10 million to anyone for anything. For one thing, the Iranian rial has crashed into the basement, through the basement floor, and has sunk through the earth's crust and into the mantle. As of this writing, $10 million American would be 13,745,704,467,353 Iranian rials. That's almost 14 trillion rials. It's likely that the Iranians simply can't cover that bet. For another thing, Iran's military and civil authorities and facilities have taken a beating that will cost the country a lot to repair, regardless of who's left in charge when all this finally ends.
The Euronews report has a few other details:
The video further alleges that "a girl" had found a way past the Secret Service's protection, sat with Barron Trump in a private meeting and passed information to the programme's makers.
It claims Barron Trump communicates privately via voice and text on Xbox, away from his security detail. Euronews could not independently verify any of these claims.
The broadcast follows a similar video released by the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency in July, titled "Where and how is Melania Trump accessible?", which detailed her movements in New York and alleged vulnerabilities in her security.
Here's the thing: Barron no doubt communicates privately by voice and text, maybe on Xbox, maybe by other means. He's a college kid. It kind of goes with the territory. College kids communicate privately and always have, even if some of us are old enough to remember doing it via smoke signals. As for the nature of any girl and any "private meeting," well, we won't speculate about that.
This isn't the first time Iran has threatened President Trump or his family. So far, there's been no action on any of those threats; they may well be just more of the typical gaseous emissions that regularly come out of Tehran. But there are between 750,000 and 1 million Iranian nationals in the United States right now, and while some are expats looking to oust the mullahs, not all of them are friendly to the USA. Some of those people have entered the country illegally under the Biden administration and then disappeared.
These are people we should be tracking down. If there is any threat to the president or any member of his family, that's likely where it would come from.
