It looks like the District of Columbia's crime problems aren't completely over yet. Independent journalist Nick Sortor, on X, brings us a report of a shooting near the Washington Navy Yard. Mr. Sortor notes that armed Capital Police responded to the scene, and at least one high-ranking government official was evacuated.

It is UNCLEAR if this was a targeted attack, but the alleged shooter is NOT in custody, and police are searching the area.
I personally witnessed that official be EXTRACTED via undercover Capitol Police officers, protected by uniformed officers carrying long rifles
I will not name the official without their express permission, as I don’t want to dox their home.
Other officers can be seen sweeping the area for evidence like shell casings.
Will update when I have more details.
Details are scarce at the moment. No confirmed description of the shooter, still at large, has been released.
We all remember President Trump's crime crackdown last year, and the uproar that it caused among Democrats.

At this point, there's no indication that this was a direct attempt on the life of a government official or just a random shooting that happened to be in the vicinity of an official's residence. It would be easy to jump to the conclusion that this was targeted, especially in light of the heated rhetoric increasingly coming from the left in recent months, but at this point, we just plain don't know.
Added note: As of this writing, there are as-yet-unconfirmed reports from the Capitol Police that no members of Congress were involved and that the D.C. Metropolitan Police have taken over the investigation.
This is a developing story. We'll be bringing you updates as events unfold. Stay tuned.
