Iran, or more specifically, the cabal of Bronze Age barbarians who run Iran at the moment, is pretty predictable. When backed into a corner, economically or militarily, they immediately start to engage in one behavior, which is commonly described as their "...mouths writing checks their butts can't cash." This is something with which Iran's brutal theocracy has a lot of experience.
In the latest episode of Mullahs Running Off at the Mouth, Iran has threatened the United States with attacks on our bases and aircraft carriers in the region, should the Trump administration decide to start solving problems with a suitable application of high explosives.
Iran threatened Thursday to instantly strike U.S. bases and aircraft carriers in response to any attack, after President Donald Trump warned time was running out for Tehran and the EU blacklisted its Revolutionary Guards as a terror group.
As Brussels and Washington dialled up their own rhetoric and Iran issued stark threats, UN chief Antonio Guterres called for nuclear negotiations to "avoid a crisis that could have devastating consequences in the region".
Devastating consequences for the mullahs, of course. Devastating consequences for those barbarians are perfectly appropriate. They've earned it.
An Iranian military spokesman warned Tehran's response to any U.S. action would not be limited -- as it was in June last year when American planes and missiles briefly joined Israel's short air war against Iran -- but would be a decisive response "delivered instantly".
Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia told state television U..S. aircraft carriers have "serious vulnerabilities" and that numerous American bases in the Gulf region are "within the range of our medium-range missiles".
The primary vulnerability our aircraft carrier task groups have where Iran is concerned is the danger of our Navy officers and men falling overboard while seized in laughing fits.

Now, there are actions Iran could take. They still have Hezbollah, Hamas, and other proxy groups. They could launch attacks against our troops and bases in the region. They could launch some of their missiles, which have a success rate only a notch or two above Kamala Harris's presidential campaigns. And we should not take that possibility lightly; I'd be gobsmackingly surprised if our troops and installations anywhere in that area aren't standing at high alert right now.
But then, our people in that part of the world should be on high alert pretty much all the time. My time in that part of the world was pretty brief and, for the most part, pretty safe, as these things go, but we were all pretty alert anyway. It's just that kind of place. But our aircraft carriers? Seriously? These are the best-guarded ships in the world, and yes, that's because in any conflict, they are going to be the ones everyone wants to send to the bottom. But the Iranians just don't have this capability. The primary threat the mullahs pose now is climate change caused by their endless emissions of superheated gas.
Meanwhile, on the streets, the regular Iranian folks are expressing some doubt that this will end in anything other than a bitter, bloody struggle.
In Tehran on Thursday, citizens expressed grim resignation.
"I think the war is inevitable and a change must happen. It can be for worse, or better. I am not sure," said a 29-year-old waitress, speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.
"I am not in favour of war. I just want something to happen that would result in something better."
Another 29-year-old woman, an unemployed resident of an upscale neighbourhood in northern Tehran, told AFP: "I believe that life has highs and lows and we are now at the lowest point.
"Neither the economic situation, nor our livelihood is good. It is the lowest for me."
It is these people who are the victims here. They are the ones who have suffered the longest and the most under the rule of these theocratic savages. They are the ones who have lost the most and will lose the most. But they are also among the best reasons the United States and the nations of Europe have for finally ending the mullahs' rule, and if that means the permanent revocation of their birth certificates and changing their pronouns to "was" and "were," then so be it. Another good reason is the ending of Iran's status as the foremost state sponsor of Islamic terrorism, which will make the whole world a safer place.
The mullah's starting to talk crap at the United States may well be a good sign. It's a sign they are growing desperate.
