On Wednesday, the House of Representatives Oversight Committee Chair, Republican Representative James Comer (KY-01), announced that the former Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell will be deposed before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on February 9th.

Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime co-conspirator of Jeffrey Epstein, will sit for a deposition before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Feb. 9, Chair James Comer said Wednesday.

Maxwell has previously invoked her Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination, which makes one wonder if some kind of deal has been reached for her deposition. But here's the interesting bit:

The announcement came during a markup of contempt measures for Bill and Hillary Clinton, who refused to comply with subpoenas to sit for scheduled depositions last week as part of the panel’s Epstein probe.

Comer, a Kentucky Republican, had previously said he did not intend to send his staff to interview Maxwell, who is now serving a 20-year sentence at a prison camp in Texas for her part in Epstein’s trafficking scheme. Maxwell’s legal team had indicated she would plead her Fifth Amendment rights in declining to cooperate with lawmakers’ questioning.

The deposition is expected to be virtual.

Could there be some link to the Clintons expected in Maxwell's deposition, or is the timing just coincidental? Could Maxwell's planned deposition be timed to try to prompt some cooperation from the Clintons?

Slick Willy Clinton Lashes Out at Trump Over Epstein Files Release, Offers Pathetic Defense

My colleague Nick Arama covered the Clintons' non-cooperation last week. Nick writes:

If you know Bill and Hillary Clinton, you probably could have guessed that they weren't going to comply with subpoenas to testify in the Jeffrey Epstein case before the House Oversight Committee.

They'd already missed previous dates, and now, Bill Clinton just missed the rescheduled appearance slated for Jan. 13. Hillary Clinton was scheduled for Jan. 14.

Curiouser and curiouser. Maxwell's attorney is warning that House Oversight should not expect too much:

In a letter to Comer dated Jan. 20, however, Maxwell’s attorneys maintained that her posture had not changed regarding her Fifth Amendment rights. The lawyers also requested that the deposition be delayed until Maxwell’s legal proceedings had resolved.

“Put plainly, proceeding under these circumstances would serve no other purpose than pure political theater and a complete waste of taxpayer monies,” the attorneys wrote. “The Committee would obtain no testimony, no answers, and no new facts.”

Many of us have been waiting decades to see the Clintons get what's coming to them. From Hillary's infamous cattle-trading fortune, to Bill's womanizing, to Hillary's term as a carpetbag Senator from New York, to her service as the least competent Secretary of State ever, the Clintons have lurched from inappropriate to allegedly illegal too many times to count. Now, in the middle of House Oversight's trying to get them to comply with a subpoena, here comes this announcement that Jeffrey Epstein's aide-de-camp, Ghislaine Maxwell, may be deposed.

She may not reveal anything useful. Then again, she might. It seems there was little in Epstein's affairs that Maxwell wasn't familiar with. The list of names of visitors to Epstein's infamous island, that list that primarily resides between Maxwell's ears, may implicate a lot of people — including the Clintons.

Watch this closely, and let's hope Maxwell's attorney is asking for protective custody; people with possible dirt on the Clintons have a funny way of coming to a bad end.
