What is it with Gavin Newsom? Most people you're likely to encounter, when everything they attempt goes wrong, would stop and reconsider their basic assumptions. Not California's impeccably coiffed governor; when socialist policies fail, his tendency is always to socialism harder, because you can force an outcome by believing in it really, really hard, right?

Case in point: Over the last few years, California, under Gavin Newsom, has generously funded health care for illegal aliens. Now, honest Californians can't afford an ambulance anymore, as the cost of an ambulance has shot up almost 400 percent.

With illegal migrants mainly receiving Medicaid through emergency services, one area that specifically costs taxpayers is ambulance transportation.
Since 2022, the cost of taxpayer-funded ambulances has risen from $339 per transport to $1,168 per transport in 2024 in the Golden State, according to data collected by the California Department of Health Care Services.
The state of California has submitted two requests to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that, if approved, would increase ambulance transportation to $1,597 in 2025 and $1,637 in 2026, a roughly 382% increase.
The department did not specifically attribute the rise to healthcare for illegal immigrants, but DHS signaled a potential correlation.
California has cut off Medi-Cal, the state's Medicaid program, enrollment for illegal aliens beginning in 2026, but the damage is done.
Look, nobody's claiming that we shouldn't provide legitimate emergency care for anyone, regardless of immigration status. We're not savages. But if an illegal alien shows up in an emergency room with a broken jaw or in the throes of a heart attack, we should treat them, stabilize them - and then send them back to their own country the moment they are medically capable of making the trip. But there's a larger problem, and that is that too many people, illegal aliens and citizens both, use emergency rooms as a walk-in clinic for minor ailments. I hear this regularly from my own daughter, who has worked in emergency medicine for over 15 years and who runs an ER in a small Midwestern community. She handles those people with a tactic she calls "Turf to the street," but not all practitioners do this.
Back to California. This is another in a long, long litany of Newsom failures. Under his watch, the once-Golden State has the highest gasoline prices in the country, the largest homeless population in the country, some of the highest taxes in the country - and the productive are fleeing with alarming alacrity, causing California to lose Congressional seats following the 2020 census, for the first time in that state's history.
This is a man who must never be president.
