Half a Million Pounds of Drugs Foiled: USCG Crushes Cartels with 2025 Haul

The United States Coast Guard is having a humdinger of a year in intercepting drug runners. Plenty of drug boats have been sent to the bottom of the ocean by the American military, there to commune with the fishes, but the Coast Guard is doing as this branch always has - boarding suspected drug-runners, seizing cargo, and putting people under arrest.

And this year, they are breaking records, with over half a million pounds of cocaine seized. That's enough to provide a lethal dose for half the population of the United States. Watch:

A Fox News report has more details:

The Coast Guard seized almost 510,000 pounds of cocaine in fiscal year 2025 — marking the largest amount of the drug snatched in the service’s entire history.

The increase in cocaine confiscation comes as the Coast Guard has launched several key initiatives in recent months as part of President Donald Trump’s larger effort to crack down on drug cartels.

The amount the service seized translates to 193 million potentially lethal doses — enough to jeopardize more than half of the U.S. population, according to the Coast Guard. Additionally, it amounts to more than three times the service’s annual average, which comes out to roughly 167,000 pounds of cocaine each year.

That's a lot of nose candy that won't be infecting American neighborhoods.

The Coast Guard's acting commandant has a few things to say about this record-breaking haul, and I'm reminded of an old saying from one of my personal heroes, Elmer Keith: "It ain't bragging if you can do it."

"The Coast Guard’s top priority is to achieve complete operational control of the U.S. border and maritime approaches," Adm. Kevin Lunday, acting commandant of the Coast Guard, said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "We own the sea, and this historic amount of cocaine seized shows we are defeating narco-terrorist and cartel operations to protect our communities and keep dangerous drugs off our streets."

There has been and no doubt will be a lot of virtual ink spilled on the war on drugs. We can argue that another time, but a big part of the problem in recent years has been a slapdash and lackadaisical enforcement of the laws. Not anymore. This has to be putting a serious dent in supplies on the street, and imagine how much the loss of half a million pounds of blow is costing the cartels.

Not to mention that ever-present risk drug smugglers run right now of serving as further proof of that old military axiom, "There is no problem that cannot be solved with a suitable application of high explosives."

For the time being, the Coast Guard, having the full support of the administration, is doing great work. They are, this season, giving Americans something else to be thankful for.
