Trump Talks to SF Mayor: Amazing What Can Happen When People Just Communicate

Earlier on Thursday, we reported the landing of federal agents in the San Francisco area, specifically, at the Coast Guard base in Alameda. At least some of those officers were intended to be part of a surge into San Francisco, but after a conversation between President Trump and San Francisco's Mayor Daniel Lurie, that surge has been called off.

The meltdowns on the part of the usual suspects in the Bay Area will no doubt continue, as we noted:

Now we can report on some of the details of that conversation between President Trump and Mayor Lurie, and they are a great example of what can be done if people will just calmly talk to one another. The president took to his Truth Social account to present his side of the story:

The president writes:

The Federal Government was preparing to “surge” San Francisco, California, on Saturday, but friends of mine who live in the area called last night to ask me not to go forward with the surge in that the Mayor, Daniel Lurie, was making substantial progress. I spoke to Mayor Lurie last night and he asked, very nicely, that I give him a chance to see if he can turn it around. I told him I think he is making a mistake, because we can do it much faster, and remove the criminals that the Law does not permit him to remove. I told him, “It’s an easier process if we do it, faster, stronger, and safer but, let’s see how you do?” The people of San Francisco have come together on fighting Crime, especially since we began to take charge of that very nasty subject. Great people like Jensen Huang, Marc Benioff, and others have called saying that the future of San Francisco is great. They want to give it a “shot.” Therefore, we will not surge San Francisco on Saturday. Stay tuned!

Mayor Lurie stated, in his official X account:

The post continues:

I told him the same thing I told our residents: San Francisco is on the rise. Visitors are coming back, buildings are getting leased and purchased, and workers are coming back to the office.

We have work to do, and we would welcome continued partnerships with the FBI, DEA, ATF, and U.S. Attorney to get drugs and drug dealers off our streets, but having the military and militarized immigration enforcement in our city will hinder our recovery. We appreciate that the president understands that we are the global hub for technology, and when San Francisco is strong, our country is strong.

In that conversation, the president told me clearly that he was calling off any plans for a federal deployment in San Francisco. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem reaffirmed that direction in our conversation this morning.

My team will continue to monitor the situation closely, and our city remains prepared for any scenario.

I am profoundly grateful to all the San Franciscans who came together over the last several days. Our city leaders have been united behind the goal of public safety. And our values have been on full display—this is the best of our city.

Good. This is how these things should be done. No hysterics, no name-calling, just two adults, communicating like adults. More Democrats (and, honestly, a few Republicans) could learn from this example.

Here's the other part of this: It's the city's job to deal with crime, including the drugs and drug dealers he mentions. If every city, every county, would prioritize their own law enforcement to carry out their primary job, to protect the liberty and property of the citizens, things in our cities would be a lot more sane today. Mayor Lurie seems to be absorbing this idea. Where the illegal immigration issue is involved, he seems to be trying to tread more in the middle, but dealing with that is ICE's and DHS's job, not his, and not the city's. All they have to do is stay out of the way. The city could do away with its "sanctuary" policies if it really wanted to help, but at least the president and the mayor are talking, and that's not nothing.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
