What's up with California's impeccably coiffed Governor Gavin "A Little Dab'll Do Ya" Newsom? He seems determined to keep allowing men and boys to play on women's and girls' competitive sports teams, despite all the evidence from biology and reality as to how unfair that is. Governor Newsom himself admitted it was unfair. And yet, caught between the Scylla of the "gender ideology" nuts and the Charybdis of the "Resist Trump at all costs" left, he keeps looking for ways to allow the cheaters to keep cheating.
His latest effort is the formation of a "Sports Equity Commission", following the left's pattern of taking any ridiculous idea and adding the word "equity" to it, to make it sound, well, equitable. The purpose of this commission? To keep men and boys in women's and girls' sports.
In yet another violation of Title IX, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 749 to create a Sports Equity Commission. Rather than ratifying girls-only in girls sports and banning trans athletes from competing in girls’ and women’s sports, Newsom’s commission will prioritize fanatical delusions, throwing out fair, biological competition in girls sports.
Title IX is federal law enacted in 1972 that prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance, to ensure equal opportunities for all students, regardless of sex, in educational settings.
Oh, and the use of the term "fanatical delusions" is not in any way an exaggeration:
Pay attention to this drivel by the bill’s author Assemblywoman Tina McKinnor (D-Inglewood):
“The current youth sports landscape is highly fragmented and unfair. Existing practices, pay-to-play models, a lack of facilities, the absence of statewide coaching and safety standards, hyper-competitive leagues, and inaccessible community-based programs deny every child the opportunity to reap the lifelong benefits of youth sports participation which include positive socioemotional development, community cohesion, mental and physical health, academic success, and overall healthier and stronger communities.
This bill is a crucial first step towards engaging with experts on the establishment of a centralized entity charged with improving access, involvement, and the sustainability of youth sports across California leading to healthier and more resilient youth, young adults, and communities.”
Equity, Equity, Equity, Equity, blah, blah, blah. And “hyper-competitive leagues” be damned.
A league can't be "hyper-competitive" if any of the women's teams have men on them. In that case, it's more like "any team with dudes on it will crush any team without them, because they're dudes."

The rest of that statement is as we've come to expect from the far left: A huge pile of meaningless goo that will make your eyes cross. This is literally a word salad that would make Kamala Harris blush with shame.
Of course, a great deal of this package will boil down to "spending more money the state doesn't have," especially when you consider that Gavin Newsom has taken the state from a $97.5 billion surplus to a nearly $45 billion deficit. The productive are leaving California; the state has been spent into bankruptcy. The only reason that nobody has yet started posting "Will the last person to leave California please turn out the lights" is that the lights will probably already be out, because the state can't keep the power on.
But, sure, Governor Newsom, let's spend a few million more on some more leftist "equity" horse squeeze that has as its end goal defying the Trump administration, ignoring Title IX, and keeping dudes on women's sports teams. That's sure to work out well for you and for your constituents.
