If Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) really wants to know who's keeping the government shutdown going, all he needs to do is look in a mirror.
That's the message President Trump launched at the Senate Minority Leader on Tuesday, as the Schumer Shutdown entered its 14th day.
A long weekend away from Washington, D.C., did little to soften Senate Democrats’ resolve as they again blocked an effort to reopen the government for an eighth time Tuesday.
The beginning of mass firings promised by the Trump administration and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russ Vought over the weekend also failed to sway Senate Democrats, led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
One pressure point was alleviated for both sides, however, with President Donald Trump’s directive to move money around at the Pentagon to pay military service members. Their paychecks are due Oct. 15.
Still, another payday, this time for Senate staffers, is fast approaching on Oct. 20.
One is tempted to shout, "Let them eat cake!" But this is a serious matter; mass firings are coming before long, and while that won't break many hearts among Republicans, this is a key Democrat constituency here; they have to keep their government employees in place. In this, Senator Schumer appears to be embracing his inner Governor William Lepetomane.
The key sticking point remains the extension of Obamacare subsidies. Democrats appear to have chosen this hill to perish on, and President Trump is calling them out.Senate Democrats want an extension to expiring Obamacare subsidies before the Nov. 1 open enrollment date, and they argue that unless Congress takes action, Americans that rely on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits will see their premiums skyrocket.
However, Trump appears unwilling to cave into Senate Democrats' demands, and reupped Republicans' argument that Democrats wanted to undo a total of $1.5 trillion in spending cuts from the "big, beautiful bill" and clawback of funding for NPR and PBS to give, in part, to illegal immigrants.
"I don't want to bore you with the fact that Schumer said 100 times, ‘You should never close our government,’" Trump told reporters at the White House. "But Schumer is a weakened politician. I mean, he's going to finish his career as a failed politician, as a failed politician. He's allowed the radical left to take over the Democrat Party."
Of course, if Obamacare were economically viable, it wouldn't require subsidies. Barack Obama has been out of office for eight years, and he's still causing headaches to the American taxpayers.

Senate Republicans have offered that they may be amenable to some sort of deal on these subsidies, but not until after the government is once more open for business. The clean continuing resolution, which extends current spending, is still on the table. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is indicating that he'll bring the clean, House-passed bill to the Senate floor as many times as it takes to get it done.
Two Senate Democrats and one Independent who caucuses with Democrats have crossed the aisle to support the clean CR: John Fetterman (D-PA), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV,) and Angus King (I-ME). These three seem to have assimilated information that Senator Schumer has not: The Democrats just don't have any cards left to play, other than keeping the government shut down.
This may be part of the reason that the Democratic Party is showing up in polls as having an approval rating lower than that of ants at a picnic.
The longest full government shutdown in history was during the Clinton administration; that one lasted 21 days. Will we see a new record set with this, the Schumer Shutdown? Someone needs to reach out to the folks at the Guinness Book of World Records, because this is a record that looks ripe for the breaking.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
