In the days following the 9/11 terror attacks on New York City's World Trade Center, New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, due to his diligence and first-hand management of the crisis, became known for a time as "America's Mayor." We should also note that his crime policies made New York, during his tenure, one of America's safest major cities.
America's Mayor is now 81, and still active. But Saturday night, in New Hampshire, after aiding a female victim of a domestic assault who flagged down Mr. Giuliani's auto, Mayor Giuliani was seriously injured in what authorities are calling a "freak accident."
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was seriously injured in a freak car accident in New Hampshire on Saturday night, a rep said.
Giuliani, 81, was hospitalized with a fractured vertebrae and multiple cuts and bruises, including injuries specifically to his left arm and lower leg, after his rent-a-car was hit from behind, spokesman Michael Ragusa said Sunday.
“Mayor Giuliani was flagged down by a woman who was a victim of domestic violence prior to the accident. He rendered assistance and contacted 911, remaining on scene until responding officers arrived to ensure her safety,” said Ragusa, Giuliani’s head of security.
Judging from the account of Mayor Giuliani's head of security, it would appear (this is speculative, of course) that his car was struck by a motorist who wasn't paying sufficient attention.
“The accident occurred after he re-entered his vehicle, which was then hit from behind at high speed.”
Ragusa said Giuilani, who was mayor from 1994 through 2021 (Note: 2001), is recovering and in good spirits.
“The mayor is in great spirits. He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” Ragusa said.
There has been no information released as to the woman who flagged down Mayor Giuliani or the motorist who struck his vehicle. Mr. Giuliani is expected to make a full recovery, although he will probably be required to wear a back brace for the injury to his vertebrae.

Rudy Giuliani was the 107th Mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001, leaving office only months after the 9/11 attacks. In the 1980s, as United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, he gained a reputation for putting away Mafia bosses. He ran for mayor in 1989 on a tough-on-crime platform, but was not elected; he ran again in 1993 and won, going on to serve two terms.
With Police Commissioner William Bratton at his side, he adopted a "broken windows" approach to crime, which resulted in a dramatic drop in crime rates in the Big Apple. For his actions on 9/11, Rudy Giuliani was named Time Magazine's "Person of the Year" for 2001. He later unsuccessfully ran against Hillary Clinton for the New York Senate seat vacated by Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, then sought but failed to gain the Republican nomination for President in the 2008 primary season, losing out to Senator John McCain. During and since the 2016 election, he has been visible as a supporter of President Trump. He now runs a podcast on Rumble titled "Rudy Giuliani's Common Sense."
We will continue to monitor Mayor Giuliani's recovery and bring you updates as events warrant.
