It's May 28th, and that means it's National Hamburger Day!
We don't know the origins of National Hamburger Day, although it's certainly as good a day as any to honor the hamburger and its quintessentially American offspring, the cheeseburger. One of my favorite Saturday lunches is a 1/3 pound bacon cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese, pickled jalapenos, and a fried egg. That's some of the best, and most American, foods that you'll ever lay your jaws on.
Of course, one of the reasons that our favorite local eating place does their burgers so well is that they know how to cook a cheeseburger, unlike a certain New York Senator I could name - and I will name him, it's Chuck Schumer. Remember this fiasco?

Well, the National Republican Senatorial Committee certainly remembers, and they are using the occasion of National Hamburger Day to give Senator Schumer (D-NY) a good grilling over his fake photo-op.
Happy National Hamburger Day, @chuckschumer.

We grill like we vote: RIGHT. pic.twitter.com/C15pvM3kOU
The hilarious video states:
Male voice: This hamburger still looks raw.
Female voice: Oh gosh. That's like very raw.
Second male voice: Like frozen raw!
Female voice: Is the cheese supposed to be stuck to the grill?
Male voice: Guys, I'm sorry.
Second male voice: This party sucks!

Text: Join a real party. The Republican Party. We grill RIGHT. Happy National Hamburger Day.
Announcer: Join the party, and get your Father's Day starter pack. Because this year, Chuck's not on the guest list.
And one GOP official chimed in on the matter, along with the Democrats' rather sad attempts to connect with young American men:
"Shouldn't take much to know how to grill a burger or correctly call a pick six, but apparently for Democrats, figuring out how to be a normal American takes at least $20 million — and even that won't be enough," NRSC regional press secretary Nick Puglia claimed in a statement.
Senator Schumer was obviously embarrassed by the BurgerGate screw-up, as he yanked the X post shortly after his grilling incompetence was pointed out and laughed at. But this attempt was symptomatic of a larger problem the Democrats have, just as was Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and her patently fake "I'm having a beer. Do you want one?"
These people just have no idea how the mainstream of America thinks, what we care about, what we like to do, or why we like to do it. They - the Democrats - have become a niche party of urban elites, academics, activists, and the dependency class. That's all they are. They try to appeal to the mainstream, but their attempts are nothing short of pathetic.
And now the GOP is figuring out how to use that, and in so doing, giving us all a chuckle. And, yes, sometimes ridicule can not only be an effective tactic, but an appropriate one.

So, enjoy your National Hamburger Day! Fire up the grill, put some beers on ice - yes, I know it's only Wednesday, but any reason's a good reason for burgers and cold beers. We're Americans, aren't we?
Mr. J. Wellington Wimpy was not available for comment. But I feel certain he would gladly pay us Tuesday for a hamburger today.
