The Legacy Media Suddenly Goes Frugal Over Tom Homan's Security

President Trump's border czar, Tom "The Hammer" Homan, has an important job to do, and he's doing it, with the determination of a terrier going after a rat. He's also drawn a lot of opprobrium from the left, not excluding threats to himself and his family. The administration clearly feels that The Hammer should be able to focus on his job without constantly worrying about his family's safety, not to mention constantly looking over his own shoulder, so he has, as you might expect, a security detail.

Now, a legacy media outlet - CBS, to be specific - has suddenly developed a concern over government spending.

Security for Trump administration border czar Tom Homan costs more than $500,000 a month, multiple sources within the administration told CBS News, an amount that has drawn attention from allies of President Trump who have been seeking to shrink government spending.

The total cost of Homan's security — with roughly $500,000 in salaries for agents plus airfare, hotel bills and other travel expenses for his protective bubble — adds up to around $1 million per month for the Trump appointee, another administration official said.

Homan declined to comment on Friday.

I'll bet he declined to comment; any comment he may have had for them, judging by past comments, would have been, shall we say, incandescent. But the Department of Homeland Security had something to say about it.

"DHS ensures our leaders are safe and protected," Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin told CBS News Friday, citing "dangerous rhetoric" from politicians and activists surrounding the Trump administration's immigration enforcement efforts that result in an increase in assaults and doxxing, exposing someone's identifying information online.

"We will continue to take measures to ensure Mr. Homan and his family are safe," McLaughlin added. The Department of Homeland Security declined to confirm the cost.

By "declined to confirm the cost," we can presume they meant, "didn't dignify it with a response."

Look, I'm as much of a budget hawk as you're liable to find. But the work Mr. Homan is doing is vital; illegal immigration and border enforcement, matters the Biden administration ignored for four years, cost the American taxpayers billions of dollars a year. The southern border is well and truly closed, for the time being. The northern border is still something of a problem. And there are still millions of aliens illegally in the United States, right now, as I write these words. That's an intolerable situation.

Even less tolerable is the fact that there are those on the left who would threaten the people who are, like Tom Homan, trying to rectify this messy situation. Anti-ICE nutcases have been doxxing ICE agents and their families. In California, within days of Mr. Homan's appointment, some of these nuts started posting what look a lot like Old West "Wanted" posters with photos of known ICE agents.

The printed parts of those posters read:

"CAREFUL WITH THESE FACES"

"These armed agents work in Southern California. ICE and HSI racially terrorize and criminalize entire communities with their policies. They kidnap people from their homes and from the streets, separating families and fracturing communities. Many people have died while locked up in jails, prisons, and detention centers." "Possible execution/implementation measure/action 2/23/25".

So, yeah. A security detail is in order. And it's not out of the realm of possibility that the jackwagons who posted these notices are playing with a double meaning with some of their language, here.

And, no, claiming that  "Many people have died while locked up in jails, prisons and detention centers" is the purest of the stuff one finds in livestock stalls, stuff that normally gets turned into fertilizer.

The left can't get any more transparent here. They are treading on dangerous ground; we have already seen violence perpetrated against officials and supporters of the Trump administration. So, no, I won't question Tom "The Hammer" Homan having a security detail, but I will question CBS News' sudden interest in government frugality. And, I suspect, that any anti-ICE kooks or other leftists that come after Tom Homan directly may find they have bitten off considerably more than they can chew.
