Busted: Illegal Alien Voted, Took Thousands in Benefits for Years

Talk about hiding in plain sight.

On Thursday, Lina Maria Orovio-Hernandez, a Colombian national who has been in the United States illegally for more than two decades, was indicted on a litany of charges. Those charges include identity theft and fraud, as well as illegally voting in (at least) the last presidential election. I thought the left claimed that never happened?

Lina Maria Orovio-Hernandez, a 59-year-old Colombian woman residing in Boston, lived in the U.S. more than 20 years under a stolen identity and improperly received roughly $400,000 in rental assistance, Social Security and food stamp benefits, according to a press release by the Department of Justice (DOJ). Prosecutors say she not only voted in the 2024 presidential election, but has been registered to vote since January 2023.
“For more than 20 years, this defendant is alleged to have built an entire life on the foundation of a stolen identity – including illegally voting in our presidential election and collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars in government benefits intended for Americans in need,” U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley said in a prepared statement.

You've all heard it; the claim from the left that illegal immigrants add to our communities, through whatever tissue-thin means the left can conjure up. They pay sales taxes, they pay other taxes; as though that's enough reason to tolerate them being in the country illegally, even if true? But Lina Maria Orovio-Hernandez has shown us how badly the system can be abused:

Orovio-Hernandez allegedly used her stolen identity to obtain a Massachusetts Real ID, eight other state IDs and apply for a U.S. passport, according to prosecutors. She is accused of unlawfully collecting $259,589 in Section 8 rental assistance benefits between October 2011 and January 2025, $101,257 in Social Security disability benefits between July 2014 and January 2025 and $43,348 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits between April 2005 and January 2025.
Altogether, the Colombia national is charged with one count of fraudulent voter registration, one count of fraudulent voting, one count of false representation of a Social Security number, one count of aggravated identity theft, one count of making a false statement in an application for a U.S. passport and three counts of receiving stolen government money or property, according to the DOJ.

And she voted. She voted.

Stealing from the taxpayers is one thing, but stealing the franchise is worse. Why? Well, here's why, and I'm going to tell you: The franchise, more than anything else, belongs to the citizens and only to the citizens. The ballot box is one of three boxes in which our right to hold the government to account depends, in addition to the soap box - and you all know the third. The vote is us exercising our self-determination as a people, as a nation, as a country, at every level of government.

And only citizens should have that determination, that privilege, and responsibility to have a say in our government. From the very beginning, this American experiment, this constitutional republic, has been established by the people and for the people - the people being Americans.

Lina Maria Orovio-Hernandez is not an American. She's in the country illegally. She came here illegally, she defrauded the American people for thousands and thousands of dollars in benefits, she stole someone's identity to do so, and worst of all, she stole a portion of the self-determination of the American people by voting illegally.

This is a person that shouldn't be repatriated - not until she has had a trial and, if convicted, a long and comprehensive acquaintance with the American penal system.
