Your Gas Stove Is Safe! Trump Kills Biden-Era Appliance Regs

I've long found it bemusing, the whole notion that people have to tightly restrict themselves to save water. Now, I can see that concern in places like Tucson, or even the Denver area, where I lived for so long. But when I was a kid in Iowa, we had no issues with water, and here in the Great Land, well, if there's one thing Alaska has plenty of, it's water.

The Biden administration, now thankfully defunct, saw things differently. To that end and to address the climate change hooraw, they slapped a bunch of regulations on things like gas stoves, shower heads, toilets, dishwashers, and so forth. This was a waste of effort and annoying to boot. Trying to take a shower under one of those low-flow shower heads is a frustration and requires spending at least three times as long in the shower, and as for stoves, anyone who wants to come take my wife's LP gas stove and replace it with an electrical unit had better be prepared for a shootout.

The times, they are a'changin', though. Now the Trump administration has revoked all of those regs. Our gas stoves and high-flow shower heads are safe.

Gone are rules banning a wide swath of gas stoves. Gone are the strict water standards governing dishwashers and shower heads. And gone is the government-wide effort to force electrification of the economy through appliance regulations. It is all part of a historic action the Trump administration announced Monday, reversing dozens of energy regulations, saving consumers more than $11 billion, and cutting more than 125,000 words from the United States Code of Regulations.
As part of the Department of Energy's sweeping action unveiled Monday, it will rescind dozens of energy efficiency regulations targeting common household appliances that the Biden administration issued as part of its climate agenda. That includes rules restricting sales of certain types of gas-powered stoves and ovens in addition to microwaves, clothes washers, dishwashers, faucets, shower heads, and dehumidifiers.

That's as it should be. Things like electric stoves, low-flow shower heads, and toilets, and so on, are still available on the market for those who want them. That's fine, those people can buy what they like, and much good may it do them. As for me, well, we have a well drilled 80 feet into the water-saturated Alaska bedrock; we won't run out of water in a million years, and I like not having to spend 20 minutes in the shower.

Markets, not governments, should make these determinations.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright agrees.

"It should not be the government's place to decide what kind of appliances you or your restaurants or your businesses can buy," Energy Secretary Chris Wright told the Washington Free Beacon earlier this month. "Everybody wants clean air and wants to lower their energy costs and run their factories good as they can. The big hand of government doesn't actually help that process at all."

This is precisely so, and it's good that Secretary Wright and his boss realize that. But this decision should be codified into law while Republicans have the power to do so, because as it stands, the next Democrat president can just undo everything the Trump administration has done, sending us back into the realm of using our fingernails to scrape soapsuds off our bodies because of an anemic low-flow shower head that just isn't getting it done.

Incidentally, if anyone can point out to me where the Constitution grants the federal government the authority to regulate appliances used in private homes, please do so, because I can't find it in there anywhere.
