On Monday, Representative Lance Gooden (R-TX) spoke with Fox News' Harris Faulkner on her show, "The Faulkner Focus." The topic: The current continuing resolution to fund the federal government. Rep. Gooden points out that the CR is clean, with no "pet projects," and yet Democrats are opposing it.
Rep. @Lancegooden: "Democrats are refusing to vote for this bill. It's a clean CR...There are no pet projects — all the usual stuff that folks hate about these Continuing Resolutions is NOT in this CR." pic.twitter.com/v4QLG0TEn9

The conversation (in case you're experiencing the X outages that seem to be plaguing us Monday) was to the point:
HARRIS FAULKNER: Talk to me about some good things with this bill and if you think you can hold Republicans together.
LANCE GOODEN: I will, but first let me just remind you, how many times did you hear Nancy Pelosi say Republicans are irresponsible for not supporting keeping the government open.
HARRIS FAULKNER: A lot.
LANCE GOODEN: Now here we are, Democrats are refusing to vote for this bill, it's a clean CR, continuing resolution, it's got a few things in it, it funds veteran's services, it ups spending on border deportations for ICE. Our border czar has been coming to the Capitol, saying 'I need more money, I can send more out of here but I need more money to do it.' This does it.
There are no pet projects. All the usual stuff that folks hate about these continuing resolutions is not in this CR. And so tomorrow at 4PM, it's scheduled for a vote, I believe it will pass, I believe it will then go to the Senate, it will get over 50 votes, and it will be up to the Democrats whether there's a government shutdown or not.
We feel certain that Rep. Gooden is savvy enough to know not to expect intellectual consistency from Democrats. If Republicans oppose a spending bill that results in a partial government shutdown, no matter how ridiculous or pork-laden their CR is, then Republicans are evil people pushing grandmas off cliffs. If they oppose a clean CR with some support for Tom "The Hammer" Homan's broadly popular repatriation efforts, then it is a matter of the highest principle, and also, Orange Man Bad.
It's safe to say that support for veterans is widely popular as well.

Prediction: The Democrats will oppose this to their last breath.
The fate of this continuing resolution rests in large part on just how foolish Congressional Democrats are willing to look, and for the last, oh, eight weeks or so, the answer to that seems to be "very foolish indeed." It's probably just as well for the country that the national Democrats are still opposing things like the removal of known gang members and criminals who are in our country illegally, which is, at the moment, what ICE is focused on. It's also probably just as well for the country that national Democrats are making things like allowing dudes to play on women's sports teams and share their locker rooms a hill they are willing to die on.
If this CR passes, more Democrats will have more egg on their faces, and the few remaining moderates in that party will still be hit by the splash.
