With each new day, Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) takes another bite out of government waste, but it seems for every dollar they uncover, a dozen more surface; the DOGE has revealed that there is, in Washington DC, a never-ending spigot of stupid spending. 

Among the stupidest of that stupid spending comes from a couple of government agencies spending billions in taxpayer dollars on people who are in the country illegally, and they aren't just putting them up in luxury hotels; they are also giving them money for cars, home loans, and business startups. These are, remember, illegal aliens receiving this money.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) ramped up grants for migrants from 2020 to 2024 — which included cash assistance to buy cars, homes and even build credit for startup businesses, according to a shocking watchdog report that found taxpayers were left on the hook for $22.6 billion.

HHS’ Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) — which came under fire last year for having lost track of 32,000 migrant kids in the US — handed out the high sum to a host of nonprofits, effectively acting as a “giant magnet” for those crossing the US border and claiming asylum, auditors from the money monitor OpenTheBooks revealed exclusively to The Post.

Tasked with settling migrants, asylum seekers and other refugees in America, ORR drastically increased the number of noncitizens eligible to receive funding over the bulk of President Joe Biden’s term, with more than $10 billion shelled out to grant-receiving organizations just in fiscal year 2023.

Note that most of these people aren't refugees and they aren't migrants - they are illegal aliens, and programs like this are a huge magnet for the influx. The Biden administration, we should note, cranked this spigot of stupid wide-open. 

That coincided with all-time records being set for southern border crossings into the US, with 2.4 million apprehensions by Customs and Border Protection over the same period.

Non-governmental groups bilked taxpayers for up to $1.7 billion in services including dollar-for-dollar matching savings plans for cars, homes, college educations or startups; small-business loans of up to $15,000; loans to repair credit history of up to $1,500; “cultural orientation,” “emergency housing support,” legal assistance and Medicaid care.

Democrats, meanwhile, are still puzzled over President Donald Trump's breathtaking election victory last November, even though this very issue was one of the president's primary campaign talking points.

The Office of Refugee Resettlement has been generously funded by President Biden's HHS and has poured that money out liberally, as the Substack column Open the Books has revealed.

Every penny of that, mind you, went to people who were in the country illegally. To people whose first act on entering the United States was to break our immigration laws - laws that the Biden administration had no interest in enforcing. And it's a safe bet that every one of the illegal aliens who gained an unearned increment from this program was immediately in contact with friends and relatives back home, informing them of the great American gravy train. What a huge draw free money is!

Fortunately for the typical American taxpayer, this can't and won't continue. Sunlight is, as they say, the strongest disinfectant, and Elon Musk's DOGE is shining some bright lights into some very dark corners, and that light is making the cockroaches scurry for cover. It's a great reversal from the Biden administration, which was determined to provide the cockroaches with cover while they wasted the American taxpayers' money.
