Donald Trump is sure going to have a busy day on Monday if all of the "Day One" speculation is any indication. The reinaugurated President Trump will be up late, signing executive orders, prodding Congress for legislation, and generally living up to his campaign promises.
One of those promises involved curtailing the transgender and "gender ideology" agendas, or at least, curtailing federal support for those agendas. Joe Biden's policies on this topic have been well to the left of ridiculous, and whether it be on day one, day two, or day five, President Trump will be making a lot of changes.
A Daily Caller piece has some suggestions, namely, three things President Trump can do right away to curtail this agenda.
Terry Schilling, president of American Principles Project, outlined the three pledges Trump made during his campaign to stop gender ideology, to the DCNF.
“The first is he has pledged to defund sex change procedures for minors throughout HHS and the federal government — so no more paying for that. And he can do that through executive order, through HHS and Obamacare regulations,” Schilling told the DCNF.
“Secondly, he’s pledged to defund DEI and transgender curriculum in schools — he can also do that through executive order. And then third is women’s sports, interpreting Title IX and instructing every federal department and agency to interpret Title IX as it was intended, which is biological sex.”
“He can do all of those on day one,” said Schilling.
As noted, the returning President is surely going to have a busy Monday.
Be it on day one or day five, these are good suggestions. Let's look at them one by one.
First: Defunding sex change procedures for minors. The real work here is being done at the state level, and that's appropriate. But HHS is, through various programs, funding irreversible, harmful, sterilizing, and life-altering procedures, both hormone treatments and surgeries. These are, in some states that haven't yet banned the practices, being carried out on minors who are not legally able to get a tattoo - but they can have irreversible hormone treatments, or worse, surgical mutilation of healthy, normal tissues. Now it's not the role of government to bar this from (supposedly) competent consenting adults, who can sign up for any bizarre things that they can find a doctor to do. But there is an enormous and unforgivable ethical inconsistency in allowing this for children who aren't yet old enough to vote or drink a beer.
Second: Defund DEI and transgender curriculum in schools. It would be preferable to see no federal funding or interference in schools at all; schools should be, and through most of our history were, managed locally. But the purpose - the only purpose - of a school is to produce young adults with marketable skills. DEI and transgender programs do nothing to that end, and since this is the system we have to work with, then yes, deny any federal funding to schools that go in for teaching this utter corral litter.
Third: Protect girls' and women's sports. Again, this is mostly handled at the state level - but again, there is the system we have in place. Title IX is a federal regulation and has been grossly misused by the Biden administration to allow mediocre dudes to claim to be transgender and play against women and girls, often taking from those women and girls awards, trophies, and even scholarships. This is a hideously unfair practice, one I have written about many times, and a simple redefining of Title IX will go a long way toward ending it.
President Trump, we should note, has already pledged to take these actions.

Day one or day five, these are things that can and should be done quickly.

Jay W. Richards is the Director of the Heritage Foundation’s Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family. He has some thoughts on how President Trump can further dismantle this agenda.
“He could issue an EO providing a solid biological definition of male and female. He could call for restrictions on federal funding of ghoulish ‘gender transition’ drugs and surgery, especially for minors. He could prohibit male prisoners from being housed in female federal prisons. He could call for protecting women’s sports and spaces in institutions that receive federal funding. He could reverse the military accommodations of gender-confused service members, which harms military readiness and morale. And he could direct all agencies in the executive branch to develop a plan to extract gender ideology from all its programs.”
The prison and military aspects are also things that could be handled quickly, although state-level action would be needed in the case of state prisons. But the military - that's a big one. Readiness and morale, yes, are affected by these stupid policies, but more to the point, it's a matter of national security. We rely on our armed forces to protect the liberty and property of all Americans. We cannot compromise readiness and warfighting ability, but the Biden administration has sacrificed those things on the altar of DEI and "transgender rights." This must be reversed immediately.
We can expect a lot of changes from the incoming Trump administration. These are some big ones - and fortunately, they can be handled quickly. Let's get it done, Mr. President!
