And the hand-wringing and pearl-clutching continues apace. The latest example of leftist meltdowns over Donald Trump's decisive electoral victory has us hoping that CNN's headquarters has an ample supply of fainting couches.
CNN, you see, has what they call a "Chief Climate Correspondent," one Bill Weir, whose very existence is, he claims, threatened by Donald Trump's victory. What's more, he's claiming that the entire planet is now in danger.
Making several appearances Thursday on CNN to discuss the aftermath of Donald Trump winning the presidential election, CNN chief climate correspondent Bill Weir fretted over a second Trump administration's climate policies, and declared that the President-elect is "the most notorious climate denier in history" who will let the climate "go to hell."
This is the same Bill Weir who famously declared "even the seagulls" were "awed" with Barack Obama's first inauguration.
Wow. Even the seagulls. Sure, this guy's an impartial reporter. One wonders if he had a tingle up his leg at that same inauguration. But it gets better - and by better, I mean more hysterical.
Weir then came aboard and recounted the different possibilities for how many degrees warmer the world might become and argued that it is necessary to cut back fossil fuel burning within five years to prevent dire consequences. He soon took aim at President-elect Trump: "Every country in the world says we're going to try to hold the line at 1.5, and now we're here just as maybe the most notorious climate denier in history takes power once again."
As he appeared again in the afternoon shortly before 3 p.m., Weir fearmongered that there would be "hell on Earth" if the world fails to cut carbon emissions, and then took aim at Trump again: "Once we hit two degrees, if you think things are bad now, imagine the hell on Earth that would be three degrees of global warming. Well, Donald Trump is basically saying, 'Go to hell -- go to that hell,' because he doesn't want to even acknowledge the existence of the problem."
This is a guy who compared Kamala Harris to Abraham Lincoln, which probably tells you all you need to know about his political views - including that he apparently doesn't realize Lincoln was a Republican.
Here's the thing: Donald Trump isn't a "climate denier." That very term is disingenuous. The climate exists; it always has and it always will. You can't deny it, and nobody does. What President-elect Trump's policies on this issue tell us is very plain: That our impact on the planet's climate does not merit jacking the price of energy into the stratosphere, costing hundreds of thousands of Americans (and, to be fair, other countries') jobs, and reducing if not eliminating our modern technological lifestyle.
President-elect Trump is also almost certainly aware that, throughout the planet's history, it's been mostly warmer than it is now. And somehow, this little blue-green pearl just keeps spinning around.

Bill Weir and people like him, as I keep pointing out, are largely in a position where they are insulated from the effects of the policy positions they propose and advocate. I have no idea what the position of "Chief Climate Correspondent" at CNN pays, but I'll bet it's not chump change - and I'll bet, although I don't know, that Bill Weir lives a comfortable lifestyle made possible in large part by abundant, affordable energy.
A lot of Americans, though, including some of my neighbors right here in the Valley as our Alaska winter sets in, are having trouble buying heating oil or natural gas. A lot of Americans are wincing every time they have to put gas in their cars. Most of us see the increasing cost of energy, and Donald Trump is the candidate who told us he'd do something about it.
That's good enough for the electorate. And sorry, Bill Weir, but you're just going to have to get used to that.
